I need to plant my basil.
I got one of those "living herb" basils from the grocery store where the plants are in little soil cubes.
I used most of it but kept three seedlings growing but they've really outgrown the cube now.

Plant them out. They like the heat so you might need to keep them inside depending on where you are.
This one was a little pot from the local Sunday markets.
I initially went to buy seeds but it's late in the season so I went the high time preference option.
yeah, I'll definitely keep them inside. they're on my kitchen counter right now next to the sink so I don't forget to water them.
my hurdle right now is that I only need a tiny amount of soil for a small pot but I don't know where to get just a little bit of potting soil.

Just find the most fertile looking soil you can.
If you do nothing, they'll die. At least with this, you're giving them a fighting chance.
that's true. I do have a lot of soil outside from my previous years gardening attempts 😅
You could try to take cuttings and root them. I started doing that last year and was surprised how easily some things root. I am now over planting tomato seeds in my starting pots. I keep the best one then cut the rest and put them in water. I'll direct plant them when they are nicely rooted. The cuttings are a bit behind, but I get more out of my space in seed trays this way.
