nah ...

i was just outside trimming some trees in the backyard but i like to use my tech inside with the blinds closed and in a dark a room as possible

in fact i prefer backlit keyboards because they allow me to keep my room light lower but unfortunately the best feeling keyboards aren't always available with backlight

it wasn't even the feeling though but the sound. i have an RGB keyboard that feels good but is fairly loud even though it has tons of sound deadening in it ( from the factory ). they simply wanted it to feel crisp so they refused to damp keys directly and only damped the chassis.

by contrast my main keyboard ( NIZ plum ) is described as feeling like marshmallow and is much quieter but doesn't have backlighting forcing me to keep lights on in the room.

which is a little silly because even my wireless mouse has RGB lighting so why not keyboard which is WIRED.

in fact my Asus RGB keyboard is WIRELESS so it's just that exotic feeling keyboards don't really target gamers which is why they don't have lighting and it's a shame because you get more drawn into what's on the screen when the room is darker.

my setup goals are 8K screen as big as possible ( 85" or bigger ), as bright as possible ( 4,000 nits or better ), and in a room as dark as possible with only enough light for me to avoid tripping over my shoes on the floor.

"daylight computing" = NO GO from me

if you're in Amsterdam you probably know what a bicycle is. go to a mountain trail with a mountain bike - that's what daylight is for. not for computers.

I prefer not to irridiate myself with even more blue light that fucks with my circadian rhythm so this thing was a godsent. These displays and devices make that possible, though they come with some disadvantages like lower contrast, no color, etc. I mainly use mine to read but knowing that I can just attach a keyboard and push some markdown file down a git drain, do some writing or very light coding while sitting under the sun without worrying about glare, reflections and or insufficient display backlight is fantastic. Don’t judge what you don’t know.

I’ve had my share of proper bike rides around Amsterdam. Yesterday I decided against bringing mine for logistical reasons. I’d be surprised if you spent more times on bicycles than me. 🙃

bah ! such insolence !

how DARE YOU ( LOL ) suggest that i may not know something !

you amateur i been buddies with a guy ( Bill Lagakos ) on Twitter a decade ago who had a PHD in Circadian Biology. I also worked with lighting designers and my mother ( an Architect ) wrote about psychology of color like 50 years ago. and now you will "teach me" about Blue Light because you saw that faggot Dave Asprey wearing yellow glasses.

kids these days ... SMH ... the second they find a computer they become experts at everything ... nostr:npub1acg6thl5psv62405rljzkj8spesceyfz2c32udakc2ak0dmvfeyse9p35c is the worst offender at this !

anyway stop lying you're not doing this for circadian rhythms. you just want to be the cool kid.

but only *I* can be cool !

LOLOLOLOL

Nah, I actually feel kinda dorky with this thing.

(Fwiw, I have no idea who any of these people are. However, PhD doesn't mean much to me, especially post COVID. Hubermann et al also have PhDs. Just means you're good at learning stuff that's already or there. Jack Kruse, Robert O Becker etc all check out so far with regards to circadian rhythm, blue light, etc. Not on a mission here. 🫡)

you should not see any blue light at night. you SHOULD see it during the day. daylight is primarily blue light.

quantum dot TVs ( what i suggest for use as monitors ) have balanced profile:

cheap LEDs have ugly spectrum but overall same percentage of blue light as any white light:

only incandescent lights are low in blue light:

the scientifically correct approach is therefore to not have any light except incandescent after sunset. however DURING THE DAY staring into a giant ultra-bright computer screen is basically the same as being outside. except that when you're outside the blue light is about 1,000 times more powerful.

YES I HAVE A FUCKING METER AND I MEASURED EVERY TV AND BOUGHT THE BRIGHTEST ONE ( $10,000 MSRP Sony that i had to drive 50 miles just to see in person ) AND IT WAS STILL NOT EVEN 1% THE BRIGHTNESS I MEASURED OUTSIDE

i had 2 year warranty on the TV and after 2.5 years it died and i was told it cannot be repaired except by replacing the 8K panel at which point it makes more sense to just get a new TV, but i won't be getting one until i move to another place because i am afraid of damaging it in transport. also won't be getting a Sony again. it was supposed to be the most reliable brand but that was not my experience. back to Samsung.

i used to recommend 75" 8K sony for computer monitors but now my recommendation is 85" 8K samsung.

it's great that people are trying to think but you have to be realistic and understand that it only works when i do it !

but i still encourage all my frens to try even though it is futile !

Not looking into a blue light display at night is exactly the reason why I’m reading my books on that Daylight Computer. I can just read until I notice I ged tired and then instantly fall asleep. Never happened with my Kindle or Android tablets I read with previously.

I could opt for printed books and use an incadescent reading lamp or something but then I couldn’t read out of print books that only live on archive.org, my expenses would go way up and I couldn’t just send lengthy texts I encounter throughout the day to the device for later reading (or discarding, since some it turns out to crap).

I don’t necessarily want to do all my work outside. I prefer being on a bicycle, gardening or just walking outside for the fun of it. But a device that doesn’t screw with my circadian rhythm and is perfectly legible outside? Not gonna skip that, especially since it makes it so much easier to just read more. Before it was more of a chore, now it’s just fun.

you remind me of this meme:

because i hope you realize sunlight has a lot more blue light ( thousands of times more ) than a computer screen.

the very reason we are sensitive to blue light is because the sun has it ( and a campfire does not ).

sorry mate, but nobody gets to be cooler than me !

UNPOSSIBLE ! ! !

You should check out Jack Kruse. You're totally in the wrong here, friend.

i'm never wrong but if you provide a link i will look at it

PS: i feel bad about attacking a fellow pedophile but i also felt bad about attacking a fellow anti-zionist nostr:npub1acg6thl5psv62405rljzkj8spesceyfz2c32udakc2ak0dmvfeyse9p35c but i did it anyway !

because the truth ( or is it my ego ? ) comes first !

If you haven't attracted the hostility of DS at least once, you are failing. It denotes lack of respectability.

Kind of like my dance instructor expressed it: "No, we're not actually doing that routine - I was just being mean to [fiancé]. It's my love language."

Substitute love for respect and there you go. If DS didn't respect you he would just call you a dog or roach or something. Or mute you.

i agree but it isn't hostility - it is *disappointment*

I got that exact Pentax 🤘🏼

My mom loved that thing as well.

Lol I got mine from my mom too from her college years 🤘🏼
