Bottomline is the whole trending thing is legacy centralised sm bullshit. Lets end it. It's rubbish. It kills organic connections we make with people.

My position on this is shifting more towards no Algo w/each passing day.

But I firmly believe a client owner/dev does with their creation as they wish.

As users of the protocol, it's our choice to opt in/out.

There were habits that legacy sm created. It was bad and it made people lazy and dependent. I don't have an issue with the client but it's with people who don't make an effort to look around and discover anymore because they got used to what they were told.

Agreed! đź’Ż

Yes 🙏

Fuck trending

We didn’t need it in the past it was probably always pitched to investors as a way to surface brands while appearing to be “driven by the community “

Yes it was. It was a pay to play, too. You pay, you trend. You pay more, you trend higher.

I think trending could be fine if it’s organic. I dislike algorithms in general though, they’ll inevitably be used to censor ppl.

Even organic trending could end up hurting small users so that they don’t have a voice here.

If I only have time to look at 300-600 posts a day and nostr becomes more popular, then 300 influencers will drown out your voice and I’ll never know you exist.

There is no organic trending.

Basically quoting somebody’s post or re-posting it is what we have for a trend and it seems like it works pretty decently

I know I can’t stop people from building algos and they all should be able to do what they want, I just want us all to think hard about the dark side of the things that “feel good” or normal.

Trending is for sheep.

There will be clients that have it, and ones that don't. The ones that have it will use different algorithms. Some will be more "organic" than others.

Clients can do whatever they please and I don’t have a problem with that. It’s people who are too lazy to do any discovery and rely what they’re told.

Trending is like a secondary school popularity contest. Nothing social about it.

I am still to see a NIP that aims to make "trending" obsolete.

"Shit don't change until you get up and wash your ass."

Fr, I just interact with whatever interesting thing I find on my timeline. Digital equivalent of running into people.

No trending for me. Opt in at the absolute most. I just want to scroll what people are saying/posting. Algorithm only going to funnel people toward whatever party wants to pay the most to be at the top of the algo over time.
