Nostr is failing because by far the most; tweets are send on a couple of platforms;

Articles are published eslewhere;

Receipes are shared elsewhere;

Private communications is done elsewhere;

Photos are shown elsewhere;

Git stuff is on Github, and its just barely a thing on Nostr;

Podcast run via RSS and has anyone bothered yet to do it on Nostr?;

Calender events are managed elsewhere.

I could go on and on. If i would take the time i could show depressing graphs where Nostr would not even register for all of these things.

Most of the stuff Nostr does, already exists and has had years if not decades at this point to mature.

Yes Nostr is failing to be THE tweet system, THE photo sharing system, THE you name it.

But am i crazy? What is the git functionality of instagram? By the looks of it, Nostr is succeeding at being an open protocol for all these things.

don't give them ideas

I can totally see instagram adding git support now just to screw us

The zuck personally lurking Nostr sweating nervously; demanding they implement 3D-print design sharing before anyone on Nostr does it

Nobody cares. Even with all the 'Online safety act' stuff going on; you can scream in their face you have a sensible way out of this mess....they don't care.

For the most part humans will double down on their strategy untill they are downright forced by reality to adjust; and in some cases they rather go down with the ship.

Not long ago i contacted the developers of 'Beyond All Reason'; an opensource RTS that leverages discord heavily. I showed up, asked if they knew about Nostr, parried all their lazy remarks that disguise themselves as critiques but are actually just excuses not to think. They dont care.

Any existing community, unless you already have a sizeable controlling influence in that community, will do fuck all, they won't even consider it.

For the foreseable future, all Nostr based communities will have to be bootstrapped; build from the ground up.

And many, if not just most, will die off again . NIPs will we written and forgotten;

but those few that remain, will be the added context and marginal value gain for the next wave of attempts; less of them die off, some more take root: roots deep enough to survive any winter and ready to bloom again when conditions are correct.

I would love to see a Nostr killer-app, and it would help out a lot, but don't count on it.

Now most of us are Bitcoiners, so we sort of know this dynamic, but this time we are not all going to get rich eventually in the process, so this one is a bit harder to keep your conviction in.

And remember, the only communities on Nostr are the ones you build yourself.

There are no tweets 🤫

We need to do the things on nostr that the other platforms couldn’t copy if they tried.

Like how newspapers are unable to make an algorithmic feed.

Most of what platforms can't copy is the second order interoperability/horizontal network effects. In terms of first order its most likely censorship resistance which is valuable for all kinds of reasons people simply will never comprehend.

I agree. Interoperability is key to success. But I don’t think censorship resistance is ideal first order issue. Most people never even think about censorship resistance until they are censored explicitly (shadow banning doesn’t hit them in the face the same way)

Bitcoin payments have the same adoption/network effect problem. Sure it settles faster and has censorship resistance, but it’s not a 10x experience over credit cards for people who never experience those as problems. Everyone who already has their need met isn’t gonna take the time to learn and switch. (Thank god global monetary policy is so bad that makes NGU is the killer feature)

Bitcoin payments also need new use cases (like lightning zaps) to get adoption and grow. Do things incumbents can’t.

What can Nostr do that legacy platforms cant? My point is that is censorshipresistance first, and interoperability second....got any other ideas?
