I can see 1 and 2 happening over time. I'm not really sure what sort of relay incentives would or could be offered? What do you see as some possible ways to incentivize relay operators?
Monetizing relays maybe? - Creators/companies can open their own relay that they charge people to join to see their content, access the community, talk with them etc.
ew
Doesn't prohibit anyone else from using nostr, no one is forced to join the paid-for relay, choice of relay still remains with the end user, so I don't see an issue.
I could see this working for some communities and groups of people, those are already have communities like streamer and content creators that already charge their communities to view their content.
In before relay.onlynostrs.com becomes a thing.
😂 or an implementation of tinder, relay.nostr-ingsattached.com
Posting videos is going to cost more for example, so maybe it’s deciding how an app is going to charge for that. Directly from poster, or from advertising, or something else? Sharing that revenue with relay operators
micropayments for read/write operations on relays. run a relay for a small profit.
I think this is the way to do it.
well I didn’t mean to boost that, but I do think this is the way to do it 😅
Agree. Though, how would it be handled. Do you mean pay sats per post? i.e. 100 posts a month, if you go above that you pay 10 sats per post? Something like that?
I think per post.
I’m working on the UX designs in Figma for this at the moment.
Some relays would be free (but in my opinion end up getting spammed) but other relays require micro-payments to post. Still cheap for users, but makes it too expensive to run large spam farms. This would then incentivise relay runners.
It’s interesting to note that when digital cash was first being discussed, it was with an idea to stop email spam as one use case to make it too expensive to send millions of spam e-mails.
You could also replace “likes” with “tips” which again is a way to send sats to that user and tally the count of Sats. This incentivises the users (they can earn Sats for posts others find funny / useful).
Could consider financial penalty for bad-actors. Those that post “bad content” are downvoted with potential financial penalty. Again, incentivising good behaviour. This one is more tricky and would require further consideration.
I think models where you pay 1:1 based on actual resources used would be best. The trick will be defining a clean NIP that can be implemented by both clients and relays. And I think starting with ridiculously low amounts (eg 1 sats per read, 10 per write?) until we can onboard users and identify an appropriate market price.
i agree-- imagine it will be micropayments for being able to read/write to high quality relays or perhaps ones that have high profile users. eventually it will probably be a wsj relay for wsj subscribers to access, etc
I don't personally care about making a profit, but I would care about covering my costs and breaking even for my bills and my time. I don't run a public relay, but if I were to do so, I would consider these things.
Built-in, custodial lightning wallet. Require xx sats for a nostr post (which goes to relay ops) and xx sats to upvote (which goes to poster). Need to find a way to compensate both the relay operators and incentivize quality posts for this to grow.
Anyone can https://nano.org/try-nano right now.
Shhh! Don't ruin their fun lying.
Lightning is free and easy! /s
on boarding, offboarding, fees, channel capacity limits, channel liquidity issues, routing issues, watchtowers, being online requirements, etc.
There has to be a better way!

Immediate No.
NF will be shutdown but even if they shutdown or not they doesn´t control nano because it is descentralized you can learn more here :

Help! I think I’m being attacked by nanobots!
lo siento
I´m not a bot sir
I don’t understand your posts then 🤷♀️
If you aren’t a bot, Please stop spamming links to nano stuff under others’ posts. There’s a 99% guarantee you aren’t going to convince anyone currently on nostr to give up bitcoin for nano. If shilling nano is your main purpose, your time would be better spent on twitter right now.
What about posting a security deposit upon certain actions which you get back periodically when you aren’t flagged as a bot/spam/soliciting. Doubles as the advertising fee
