So it wasn’t a broader “they.”
The fact of the matter is there’s “censorship” similar to what X and major social did in 2020, and there’s “filtering” which should be done on Nostr.
No one is saying “remove them,” or “deplatform them.”
What is being said is “I don’t, and most do not want to see Taco Tuesday, and oftentimes worse, everytime I scroll universal.”
This is the majority of people.
So yes, build options for those that don’t want to be exposed to smut every time they open Nostr.
You don’t need to see it. Don’t follow them or hashtags, and don’t go to universe. If you really want to follow hashtags then you can turn on the nsfw filter in damus.
Look.
You’re building Nostr. This is on you to meet the needs of its users, while also being true to your vision.
“Don’t look at it,” is just about the most selfish and prick level reply you could possibly muster.
It reeks of ego.
The reality is “filtering” is going to happen regardless, and the client that does this the best will have the most adoption.
As a builder, you can either build something that fits you vision the best, or you will be left behind.
The question is this:
Can you serve the needs of your users, while staying true to your vision?
If not, someone else will and it will be worse than you could have designed.
You vision will be lost, all because of your ego.

If you have such great ideas for a Nostr client, why don't you make one? It can censor whatever you want then. Nostr requires no permission, you are free to start anytime. Maybe you will steal all of the Damus users, and become the number one Nostr client if the lack of censorship is what is holding it back 🤔

I am addressing presumptuous assumptions that I prefer censorship. So, let me be clear: censorship, no thank you. Finding an elegant solution together to make Nostr more accessible for everyone? Yes, please.
In response to the "do it yourseeelf" remarks, I can only say that I am not a developer, and I do not have the technical knowledge. I also do not have the financial means to pay a developer. This seems to be a general problem where this type of work is often underpaid.
I admit that I have not yet made a constructive suggestion.
"Nostra" comes from Latin and means "ours." And before I bid farewell to the next social media application, I wanted to gain attention and also participate without giving up.
My analysis of the status quo tells me that so far, little input has been sought from outside the Bitcoiner/Nostr bubble. I can and will do something about that.
So, if you want suggestions, here is my first one:
1. An open forum for a decentralized social media where 50/50 Nostrians and non-Nostrians can contribute ideas and needs as information for developers. Goals should be formulated.
I have proposed this idea for the next unconference and would love to build this forum.
Will has done great work. Damus and Nostr have the potential to be beneficial for *many.

Écoutez avec les interactions que de lire il me semble bien que Fiatjat ait noté qu'il ne veut voir de la pornographie infantile sur nostr de la manière qu'il est possible que tous les nostriches n'aient pas à être exposés à ses images ou films. De plus pour les femmes j'ai peu de gars montrer faire de l'extrémité sur nostr n'exposent pas leurs corps. Sur nostr elles vont trop loin certaines risquent de le regretter pour des Sats ou likes. En évoquant Snowden il a bien sûr l'une de ses notes là difficulté de dire qu'on est d'accord sur une note là controversé n'est pas acceptable sur nostr. Nous avons accepté nos différences idem que pour les travailleurs du sexe. Quand cela ne soit lorsqu'on accède à nostr ceux de cela vont sur un espace dédié.. Bientôt on verrait des filles sur lit faire des selfies sur leur lit..

Will is the person who it seems ljke is in charge but is really just the waiter delivering the meal almost (ie there are chefs and dishwashers and kitchen hands, grocery suppliers etc all involved to make the meal). Admit that might not be the best analogy but it works.
What's important to realise is that the onus is on all of us to make a better system. And if we dont like the app then we can use another or make our own. This is a new paradigm. Its almost the exact opposite of centralised platforms where you are locked in.

We got to a bad place when we had content moderators decide what we can and can't see. This by its very nature has to end with abuse of power.
Damus isn't Will's app. Its ours as users of nostr. Very important to realise the difference which I suspect you do know the diff.

Why should I use social media in general if I am asked not to follow the universe but I like to discover new users /content ?
