One interesting thing I noticed about my usage of reactions: I was over-using it because I didn’t want to deal with the friction of zaps. I’m now finding myself wanting better zap customization (change default amounts) and faster zaps. #onlyzaps

One tap zaps could be a little dangerous and lead to quite a few accidental ⚡️ ‘s me thinks, but a tap and confirm without switching apps would be rad. Would damus need a built-in LN wallet for that tho?
I’d like to be able to define a minimum amount that can be zapped to my posts. 1 sat zaps are annoying and a waste of everyone’s time.
Or at least maybe hide notifications under a certain amount.
That’s a much better idea. I’m personally a little queasy about a minimum zap limit. I may personally be able to zap larger amounts but not everyone can.

I don’t use WoS most the time. Right now I’m using LNtips, for instance. And what if I want to change wallets? The client pulls the invoice and passes it to the wallet anyway so it would more efficient if the client simply didn’t allow any invoice below a threshold to be created for that post. Otherwise you end up with a bunch of unpaid invoices sitting on wallets.
I said WoS because it was the most popular. This could be implemented easily for any wallet. It seems like you’d be fine with receiving 1 sat zaps but not all the notifications.

It’s not a wallet issue. The Nostr client pulls the invoice. And no I don’t want to receive them at all. They are a nuisance and too many of them in a row bog down your wallet. Unpaid invoices are clutter.
If you don’t want to receive them at all why not disable on the wallet level? If small zaps aren’t allowed in a Nostr client that still doesn’t stop people from sending you small amounts of sats. The only way to stop that is to reject those transactions at the wallet level.
IThe Nostr client requests the invoice. Do you understand that? It would be a much cleaner and efficient experience to do this client side. I also use different wallets at times. Doing this wallet side would be inconsistent at best, and users will get “failed to retrieve invoice” errors in their clients and not know why there was an issue.
My apologies, I should have made myself more clear. I understand the relationship between the client and wallet. Even if you managed to turn on minimum zap amounts I could still copy your LNURL, go to my wallet, and spam you without using a Nostr client. My point is that this is a wallet problem not a client problem.
While you may use different wallets the same can also be true for clients.
Finally, the error would not come from failing to retrieve an invoice but when you sent the zap and the wallet sent back an informative response like “This user has a minimum amount of 20 sats.”
Spamming my LNURL is not a Nostr issue, and LNURL-pay links allow you to set a minimum amount when you run your own server (most people don’t). I’m talking about zaps (NIP-57) which are part of the Nostr protocol. They don’t use LNURL for pulling invoices.
That too but I’ve had times where someone zaps 1 sat multiple times in a row setting off my wallet notifications for several seconds. It’s spammy behavior when a single 10 or 20 sat zap would’ve been more appropriate.

I am definitely commenting more as well. And I reduced my default zap amount down from 1000 to 21 so I can zap quicker.
Indeed. The signal in my feed has increased drastically and there has been very good dialogue. Didn’t realize how much harm reactions were doing . It’s incredible how small design decisions like this change the entire experience.

I also still think of frens like #[5] and her points she brought up yesterday in #frogtalk #nostrnests 🪺.
I haven’t enabled #onlyzaps for those reasons but also I started #zapril with the intention to #zap only or comment. And I also turned off notifications 🔔 for just “🤙” so I was happy with how much more quiet the 🔔 were.
I can still choose that but I feel by not enabling the mode it allows more possibility for interaction with non-bitcoiners.
Regardless #[4] keep building and pushing and discovering. 🤙💜🫂🧡⚡️
Reactions encourage users to be consumers. Comments, reposts, zaps, encourage users to be participants.
The algos encourage consumerism.

Likes are friction. We must not let #nostr ecosystem become a hub for instant gratification junkies.
I fully support any decision to remove likes from all the platforms. Instead, let's encourage people to use emojis to express their reactions.
Even I, who is against the like button, often choose the easiest path and hit that btn without a second thought. I know #plebs like likes but please let's make a change for the better.
