Slack must die.

I'd prefer it were a horrible, screaming death, with lots of gore and the lamenting and wailing of many project leaders.

But we could also just replace it with something Nostr-y.

my boss also wants to build a nostry slack

Smart boss. Listen to your boss. Not just a hat rack, my fren.

i've been wanting to build this kind of remote collaboration tooling for at least 5 years

i think that nostr native collab tooling would be a boon for nostr dev in general and a huge money magnet

Not just for devs. A lot of the projects using Slack aren't even dev projects.

my boss hates it so much we use discord 🤣

I absolutely despise it. As soon as there's a Nostr-native solution that is up to snuff, I'm ditching it. Makes me want to claw my friggin eyes out.

nostr totally has all the chops required, just all the money going into funding dev for this protocol has focused on twitter clones

i'm literally here building shitcoin event stores so i can stack sats to quit all that shit and focus on building some serious apps... the front end stuff is so irritating in the web form, but i know html/css pretty good, so making document rendering is easy, and i have some options for serious GUI tooling that won't suck, and lets me stay in my preferred language, and i'm almost done with NIP-01 right now, with a zero copy, hyper-fast codec, my project for june lol

Why do you dislike Slack?

It constantly drops notifications. It spies on people, showing you when they are logged-in, even if they just want to quietly read. Logging in takes about 45 seconds on my slow computer, and inviting people is a PITA, and you have to pay them or they delete everything after 30 days or whatnot.

Also scans all chat channels for AI training...by default. This can only be turned off by emailing Slack customer service. Even then you are tursting that they actually stop.

Slack is a gigantic feature set to replicate. Anyone who does it on Nostr should come up with a funding model.

Maybe private groups get a hosted private relay, and groups can pay for that hosting service.

Otherwise groups use shared relays, and there's no guarantee of privacy unless all messages are encrypted like DMs.

Slack was a mistake and should not be replicated. We need nostr irc. It's perfect because there both have relay right in the name.

Thanks for @ me and yes, I am working on blowater.app, a team chat on top of Nostr. Seems like this kind of software is getting more love in Nostr now.

However, that’s the reason nostr:npub1m4ny6hjqzepn4rxknuq94c2gpqzr29ufkkw7ttcxyak7v43n6vvsajc2jl you dislike Slack so much?

I don’t dislike Slack this much. There are a few improvements that I want and that’s why I am working on it.
