Most people on Nostr today don't know where their Nostr stuff is. That's a huge problem.

Nostr is only censorship resistant if you know where ALL of your stuff is and who can get, use, limit and delete them. If you don't know where your stuff is, and if your stuff is indeed ALL there, then you can be controlled just like centralized big tech.

If we can bring it all to the phone and use that as a source of truth to start easily testing which relays are accepting or deleting some of your stuff, with some good/easy UIs, we can change this dynamic.

can we use our phone as our own media server while using nostr

Yep, I still think we can easily get a Blossom server on the phone.

that'll be super nice. didn't catch up with the latest tech discussions, we're evolving fast

Well I run one blossom on the phone as a true degen 🤣 thankful for the upstreams.

like how? (sorry for being lazy)

No prob. Termux is your fren +

https://github.com/hzrd149/blossom-server.git

There is blossom-drive as well if you want it. But with many nostr clients who support blossom like amethyst, nostomo and nostrudel, its up to a preference. Haven and chronicle relays also can run there which save the other bits, and support it.

I hate Termux so much because it's existence blocks people from creating real apps. Termux is not a solution.

Like I said preference. Same opinion is about pronouns.

No, to me is like devs just say "Use Termux" instead of porting their code into an app and making their stuff available to a broader range of users.

I have seen this happening so many times (devs giving up making apps because "Termux already does it") that I now hate the thing itself.

Oh I get it. Agree but it is a nice mobile convenience.

Btw teemux on the phone compiles amethyst pretty nicely. Hot but nice, going for the ocean 🤣

Well that's just giving us more utility and more control, but we still have control. Like, we still have the only keys to sign and authenticate our messages, and the ability to select our preferred relays. What you're describing is a way of making that easier and thus **increasing** censorship resistance and utility. It is already censorship resistant.

Censorship-resistance is not about control. It's about being able to post your signed event and not be deleted. On Nostr, you post into relays, which are private property. They can delete you at anytime. If you have bad relays, you can EASILY be censored.

true, but how?

A simple app to check where your posts are and sync them when they are missing, watch for deletes etc can be developed.

A personal DVM

From a non-techie perspective, this should be made to be 'really' intuitive. Most noobs want a censorship-free experience, but have no clue how to manage it.

Agree

Maybe a guide would be a good start, how to configure your relays and where your information gets stored. Is there anything like this already? #asknostr

Well, you're asking the guy who literally wrote the guide to setting up your relays already.

nostr:naddr1qq9hyetvv9uj6um9w36hqqg5waen5te0xyerwt3s9cczuvf6xsurvwf0qgsyvrp9u6p0mfur9dfdru3d853tx9mdjuhkphxuxgfwmryja7zsvhqrqsqqqa28f2fdl9

What I was looking for. Thanks a ton!

My pleasure! I try to keep track of as many helpful articles and tools for Nostr as I can, but there's way too many!

That's kind of the argument for nostr. It's... uh... distributed?!?

I think this is also an argument for signers storing activity like I do with NVault.

We need personal relays. Either built into the clients, or plug n' play that anyone can set up on phone, desktop, raspberry pi, etc. Easy enough for a luddite to setup.

Yep, but outside clients. Those things should be separate. Otherwise everyclint gets a database that duplicates everything from another client. If you have 10 clients running, you get 10 copies of everything on your phone.

True, I agree. Could be solved via a "check duplicate clients" function.

Users are 8yr olds. Asking them to download 5 different things (client, relay, messenger, etc) just overwhelms them and causes abandonment. They want easy, turnkey, and everything done for them automatically. With options for further customization.

Explain

Do you know which of your posts were deleted from the relays you sent to?

How about Citrine or.. https://nosdrive.app/ maybe?

Also very easy for backing up your own content to buy an nostr:npub1aghreq2dpz3h3799hrawev5gf5zc2kt4ch9ykhp9utt0jd3gdu2qtlmhct , run a Bitcoin node and a nostr relay

That's one of my big complaints about relays - what are your terms? Everyone says pick good relays, but how would a lay person know that? Other than Wine, its not clear with many relays out there.

web of trust applications will refine the fire hose of information for us all

Nostros

Nostr people should not need to think about where their stuff is

The node is in the phone?!
