It’s probably the difference between number of users and people paying for premium and/or paying sats for clips or ads.

Finding a balance there I’m sure is crazy hard, and paying people to listen is probably an ever falling margin.

Never believed that paying people to listen to pods would be a viable long term model. The V4V model is the killer feature though.

As Heinlein wrote in the “Stranger in the strange land”, people do not appreciate what they didn’t pay for. I believe that works the other way around as well, where people willingly streaming sats per minute / per page will pick content more thoroughly and appreciate it more.

This is true. Now I stream sats I review show notes before downloading to make sure I want to listen to it.

I feel like it was more for giving people sats so they can get comfortable boosting and streaming sats out to people.

I think some pods had their own promotion too for sure and never thought it was a long term play.

Agree.

Right. Background listening could be gamed easily if it was infinite. Only 2.1 quad dammit ‼️

Find myself having to wrap my head around v4v thinking on a regular basis.

We use to turn on the television for the show, but we paid for that content with our time watching commercials. The advertisers paid the network with hopes of turning a profit on our time, and the network paid production companies, and there’s always the trade unions administering residuals to the artists. So much noise and I’m sure there’s more to it than that.

If your trying to launch something under v4v model I think we’ll continue to see newer content paying for your attention to get off the ground. If it’s not worth it you’ll know pretty quickly. Straight signal - move onto producing better content. If successful I’d imagine they’d then attract sponsors and stop paying for attention directly. I can’t imagine doing that for long once you’re successful, but maybe you do because it serves as market research.

It’ll be a great launchpad for new artists, thinkers, entrepreneurs. I guess there’d have to be some interaction aside from passive attention to avoid bots.

It feels like trying to predict the future during a paradigm shift. So much happening all at once in this space.
