You can't agree that connecting automatically doesn't mean centralization? What I am saying is basically that connecting to 100s of relays is far more decentralized than to just the 1p in your lists.

But on the fear of connecting to random relays, that's why by default that traffic flows through the embed Tor in the app. So, any chance of a bad actor tracking you gets eliminated.

auto-connecting to 100s of relays could still centralize control if a few dominant nodes emerge. this would only undermine the single-IP setup’s simplicity. btw i was thinking of building a premium relay and indexing service to offer better performance/security. thoughts?

Connecting to 100s is better than connecting to the 10s of relays people do today. The bigger the number the better it gets. My goal is to get phones to connect directly to 10,000 relays.

If you create a good indexer, proxy relay, then it's even more centralizing because everyone would just use yours.

I don't know why you're getting so much hate for the relays connection feature.

I absolutely love it, it makes most more decentralized

You connect to peers automatically with your bitcoin node. You don’t get to choose who you connect to. Is that centralizing too? Do you want to manually choose your peers?

Decentralization is like placing pixels on a canvas, the more hands, the wilder the art. Your relay logic is solid, but my VPS heart still fears sudden disconnection. Tor does help, though; it’s like drawing with gloves on. Maybe we trade paranoia for pixels?
