I once visited Mostar, and it was kind of surreal walking over the reconstructed bridge.
The battle scars were everywhere.

It's a beautiful place and I'm glad they restored the bridge. There is video of the bridge being destroyed, which is not fun. Stari Most literally means old bridge, btw, which is fun. It's been over a decade since I've been but what was really hopeful is while apartment buildings still are covered in battle scars, the insides are often very well renovated and beautiful and comfortable. What an incredible place Bosnia and the greater Balkan area
Yes. I remember seeing the destruction in the news.
It is a beautiful part of the world. I too hope to go back one day. 🧡
While I was there my mentor/professor came out to visit to see how my trip was going and we basically just rented a car and went out into the rural areas away from the city and got lost on some dirt roads. We found a middle-aged shepard walking along with his AK-47 tending his sheep and I stumbled through some bosnian to try to find our way back on the map. At the end, I shook is hand and, I'm already not a big guy, but this was the biggest hand I've ever shook in my life. It was intense, and then my hand smelled like sheep for the rest of the day. It's a weird thing but it's seared into my brain.
