For all those parents out there...

I've been using nostr:nprofile1qqstxwlea9ah3u6kjjszu6a7lrnhqkfh8eptp2z6v0e9558tlkkl2rgpz4mhxue69uhk2er9dchxummnw3ezumrpdejqz9thwden5te0wfjkccte9ejxzmt4wvhxjme09em76u as a way to distribute weekly pay to my kids for completing extra tasks around the home and when performing a random act of kindness to friends or strangers. As their wallet fills up to a healthy amount of sats, we transfer over to nostr:nprofile1qqsrc23txhhfq2yt9m32s7h90864j2cg62hvq4tpkrz8cvhpg5z39vgpzemhxue69uhk2er9dchxummnw3ezumrpdejz7qgwwaehxw309ahx7uewd3hkctclp5anw for long term storage. Once Proton adopts lightning transactions it'll get there more directly (routing through nostr:nprofile1qqsvn0dkjt80raqrxd470c98n7zrdehmcvj6p5hgw3kyku6zyd8z0fqpz4mhxue69uhk2er9dchxummnw3ezumrpdejqzrthwden5te0dehhxtnvdakquw0j5p). This has made it 1000% easier and faster then using the standard banking and the kids are stacking sats every week. I tell them frequently... "Your mom and I hodl now time to earn your own". If anyone has any tips or alternative strategies, I would love to hear about them.

Huge shout out all the ecash devs out there, nostr:nprofile1qqs9pk20ctv9srrg9vr354p03v0rrgsqkpggh2u45va77zz4mu5p6ccpzemhxue69uhk2er9dchxummnw3ezumrpdejz7qgkwaehxw309a5xjum59ehx7um5wghxcctwvshsfmrzrk and so many more. Thank you

I use my LNbits instance connected to my node with boltcards for each family members. I love ecash, use it for zap wallet, but if I can self costody, I prefer that.

Great idea! Minibits is a solid lightning/ecash wallet with a friendly UX and easily understood functionality. The big balance display let's them see what they have at a glance, and the ledger let's them easily dig into the transaction log and see all their deposits. Very easy to audit, and perfect for kids who are earnin' and learnin'! I do wish it had on-chain integrated, but can easily convert lightning to on-chain using Muun or even Coinos. In fact, you may want to look at Coinos as an alternative to Minibits because it has the integrated on-chain making it very simple to transfer their sats directly to Proton Wallet all within the Coinos wallet.

Wauw what a great strategy and learning your kids to stack.

Using a opensource wallet like minibits is very nice, maybe you can also try nostr:nprofile1qqsqcdcltmv4qanpx3p7svcufdsg9rkk00x7l2sknra4e6whkv59l7cppemhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mp0qythwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnswf5k6ctv9ehx2ap0qywhwumn8ghj7mn0wd68ytnzd96xxmmfdejhytnnda3kjctv9uke3478 for the swaps to onchain and bluewallet (phone)or sparrow (pc)for the onchain wallet. It is always good to try different options to learn.

And a important thing to learn for them is utxo management, to consolidate their utxo's for the future. Especially now when fees are low.

Thanks for sharing your story.

Why would you route through nostr:npub1ex7mdykw786qxvmtuls208uyxmn0hse95rfwsarvfde5yg6wy7jq6qvyt9 though

I think you can do lightning transactions from within nostr:npub1kvaln6tm0re4d99q9e4ma788wpvnw0jzkz595cljtfgwhldd75xsj9tkzv

No?

He's using Strike for 2 reasons (at minimum).

1. Minibits uses lightning and Proton Wallet is an on-chain wallet. He's using strike to trade sats on lightning for sats on-chain.

2. Strike offers free on-chain withdrawals, so all he has to pay is the small lightning transaction fee to send the sats to Strike, and then Strike covers the on-chain fee for the withdrawal to Proton Wallet.

Okay, so this is what he’s doing now. I thought he was planning to do this once nostr:npub18s4zkd0wjq5gkthz4paw2704ty4s354wcp2krvxy0sewz3g9z2cs73ydrt got lightning

Strike seems to have excellent LN liquidity and connections. I bought a BitAxe recently, paid in sats via Strike and it zapped through instantly. Very impressed. I had forgotten about the free on chain withdrawals too. Anyway, thanks for the explanation.
