Brené Brown talks about the difference between shame and guilt. Maybe we’re talking about two different words?

“I believe that if we want meaningful, lasting change we need to get clear on the differences between shame and guilt and call for an end to shame as tool for change. That also means moving away from labeling.”

mmmm 🤔

if you want to define "shame" as pathological

well ok

but thats not the general social usage.

mostly the current unpopularity of "shame" is only because modern society believes in absolute relativism and thinks nobody should ever feel bad about anything or be held accountable to anything ever.

in other words, 99% of the time feeling shame isn't the problem.

I think we’re saying the same thing but with different definitions. The issue is using shame to make someone feel guilt vs feeling guilt for doing something against one’s morals, beliefs, code, etc.

Society’s issue is more a loss of morality and values.
