Yesterday I decided to fire a client due to their work site being too dangerous. I wouldn't have been able to do that if I hadn't made some tough choices a few years ago and designed the life I wanted. To paraphrase nostr:npub15879mltlln6k8jy32k6xvagmtqx3zhsndchcey8gjyectwldk88sq5kv0n, if you're not designing your life, somebody else is.

Although I didn't get income today, I did spend the morning with my family, I'm getting work done around the garden in some glorious spring weather. Currently just relaxing eating my own free range eggs, venison chorizo and rocket straight out of the garden. I don't regret a thing today.

#grownostr #lifestyledesign #getshitdone #plebchain #nostriches

That's a cool idea

I second that and will happily plants trees for #sats

Ok Ryan your up too then. When are trees typically getting dormant for you, give me a rough idea idea of cost and what your thinking of getting.

I greatly appreciate it brother but I’ve only got a .2 acre lot and if I plant any more trees I won’t have room for my annual veg garden.

Ok if you want to give it a shot Jim lets go for it. I am guessing your in the U.S so it's probably a similar cost to here atm or even a bit cheaper. When are trees typically getting dormant for you?

In about 2 to 3 months everything should be dormant.

You are in the UK?

I'm in Australia, so we're heading into spring.

Ok great Jim yes I am in the U.K. Let us know what you want thinking of planting and roughly how much it it could cost.

I was hoping to get quite a few trees in the ground during the dormant season this year. Just started the process...trees can be pricey. Looking for a place that ships bare root right now to save costs.

I was looking at planting everything from support species to fruit and nut trees.

I am sure I can find a bareroot seedling for under 20 USD.

Trees are super expensive, particularly if you want decent quality. I managed to get a few avocados in and some ash trees, both volunteers from the garden, for shade, but couldn't find the pecan and a couple of other trees I wanted to purchase.

They have certainly gone up quite a bit recently, when I moved in here I got some bareroot apple trees on dwarfing stock that were grafted with random varieties (all really solid dessert varieties it turns out)that were £3 a tree!

Now it's about £20-£25 a tree potted £12-18 bareroot. Depends where you buy it and the quality, organic cultivation or not etc. Prices are still a bit all over the place as the inflation hasn't really settled too.

Meet nostr:npub1lwy7trur3d7hz65gxq82rujnnllhsan25yfpasgfdzmtzzjf3u5q0v4zv0, he's an Almond that is looking forward to a bright and productive future.

His credentials are:

- from a local nursery

- sold through a local independent garden centre

- 25% off

Tried to find a pecan but couldn't, my wife likes almonds so this will work well.

After the discount it was $25 around £12, if your cool with that.

I guess Wallet of Satoshi is having a day off or something. Going to try again later if it still has issues I will have to link another wallet to nostr.

I got the sats in the wallet now I just can't send them to you 😭

I think Wos just hated the other note for some reason! Anyway didn't want to risk zapping 83,000 in one go and have it break again hence all the smaller transactions. Guess that's the price of trying something new.

Thank you very much hope you manage to get it in the ground soon 🙂

Would you make a few tags for it to at some point too?

No, thank you mate, super generous and a great idea. I'm going to get it in the ground this week, with some new compost and mulch.

Now by tags do you mean a physical tags with names, dates etc or tags/# in a Nostr note? I was going to make a new note about the whole concept and how it goes, if you don't mind? Is it #Nostrees or #Treestr?

I was thinking #nostrees would be good for trees zapped over #nostr you can add #treestr though as more general tree tag.

Would be nice to have a physical tag saying some like "paid in Bitcoin via Nostr" that and "planted for Bill" because Bill was a seditious ol' bastard 😁 and hopefully he would have loved the idea of zapping trees to people internationally without a feckin bank fondling the money and taking a cut.

Yes please, make a note. It was just an idea and thanks to you it been made a reality. I am hoping at some point we can get some sats to some unbanked permie on an edge of a desert or other fragile landscape and keep zapping them until they have established something fairly substantial. If you find anyone let us know!

I think #Nostrees as an organised effort to support people in degraded or resource limited areas is a fantastic idea.

Here's your tree. Planted in the temperate orchard area, lots of sun but sheltered and guarded by the free range attack chooks. Its got a wire fence around it until it's bigger because they love digging holes.

Nice one, knew you would do a good job. You definitely deserve a zap just for 'free range attack chooks' 😄. I zapped you for the trees from where I work in Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire so how far away from you is that in miles/ km/pieces of string?

I'll find out today at the paycheck plantation and let you know.

16 388km I'm fact.

That was getting hard to quantify in my head so I thought I would look up the circumference of the earth apparently it's 40,075.017 km at the equator. So we managed to zap a tree almost 41% of the length of the equator 😛🤙

Now for the forest.

Hell yeah, I am going to try to see if we can find a permie to zap in Wadi Rum, Jordan. A tad more ambitious but the more I think about it the more I like the idea!

Quite like the idea of zapping the great Caledonian forest back in Scotland too. I think people there are already trying to replant that so might be easy to suggest. Will have to see what they are planting!

If you find permies to support let me know.

Ha, forgot the photo

You've zapped me too much for the tree too, should only br around 60k sats, sent you the rest back.

Yeah wasn't too bothered about that I figured it might be useful if you need any tags, but thanks I can always use it to zap the next tree.

Perfect, you have made my day! You can go back and buy another for that price of you like! 😁

Just got to load up my wallet and I will zap you the sats for it, bare with me I am just on a lunch break and things are moving quicker than I thought

Going to tag this with #nostrees to so we can hopefully keep track of them as we go along

Finally got a tag done nostr:npub1lwy7trur3d7hz65gxq82rujnnllhsan25yfpasgfdzmtzzjf3u5q0v4zv0, thought of trying to engrave it, but I'm shocking with an engraver, so permanent marker on sheet metal and I'll hit it with a clear coat for extra longevity. I'll mount it on a pole of some type. Hopefully start some discussions when friends and family read it.

Nice one 😁. Imagine the discussions in decade or so, christ on a bike that's a fecking expensive tree 😆

I know right. We'll look back on that in amazement, but it's a great idea and story.

Oh I’m now following you 🫂

Followed back 👍

Sounds similar to here, so that is sort of price is fine Jim. If you are really buying a lot the wholesalers are usually dramatically cheaper or you might find negotiation with your local nursery might give you a much better deal.
