I really don’t mean to brag and act like a dickhead here, but I struggle to feel pity for millenials, Gen Z, whatever you call them that they can’t afford living and buying properties.

I mean… I was born 1989, so I am a millenial myself.

In 2016 I was 27, more than $50.000 in debt from a failed business attempt and I had literally nothing besides a phone in my pocket and old Xbox 360. I basically had to start from scratch.

Few years later we have a nice flat, nice car, 2 kids and 3rd on the way, some Bitcoin and my plan is to build a house and retire in 2030 (ok, last one will be mostly Bitcoin’s work).

I am not a genius. I don’t have any universities nor do I have any special talents. I am a decent salesman at best and my only hard-skill is that I am hardworking and somewhat resilient. And that skill was more a necessity than anything else, or I could end up homeless no doubt there.

I swear I don’t want to sound arrogant here… but am an unicorn of my generation or are other people just lazy?

Work grind and save. Most people have a consumption problem and over look how saving is the key to stability

Savings! That would be it!

Once I was able to refinance my debt for a better rate I immidiately started to invest any leftover cash.

I don’t party, I don’t drink (I did back then), if we went for a holiday it was very low cost backpacking and we saved a lot money.

I change my phone when I have to. I still wear a 10 year old sweater because it’s still ok. Other than some gaming gadgets and games in discount I don’t really spend much money on myself.

I think you got the point.

👏👏 based. I try to do this myself

The sorry ones are those who did what they were told, got into debt for a worthless degree in something irrelevant, then got indoctrinated to believe wealth was unfair and social status was attained by saying and believing the correct things, even if you were broke. Unfortunately there were/are many such cases.

Everyone has agency and bears responsibility for his own life, but you can see why people feel bad for those who were duped into that station.

House prices are rising too fast. There’s no reason that my childhood house is should be 4.5x price today. Also interest rates being 7-8% on a house. Oof… many people are being priced out.

Luckily I got in before rates went up. If I hadn’t I’d be paying almost 1,000 more a month in my mortgage…!

My parents used to rent a 3 bedroom for 600 in the 90s. Now that’ll barely get you a rented bedroom on a Craigslist ad.

I see. But high rates are inevitably just a period in time, it may last another year or so and it will drop again to a more reasonable levels.

I also understand that rents gone up a fair bit. But for the most part even the wages are rising.

And if not enough, you can always jump higher in the ladder. Or I think you should, if you’re young, healthy individual. Because if not young, then when?

80's trying to make a comeback? 😄

I don’t disagree… but I’m not sure if interest rates will fall back to 2-3%… maybe in a few decades 🤷‍♀️

Luck's a factor 🤙

Luck in what?

I am grateful for what I have but I am not sure luck has anything to do with it. I had to make tough calls.

Of course I don’t own flat in Prague where median of prices is around $500k. I had to move out to a smaller city and I drive all around the state to make a living.

Of course I don’t drive brand new car. It’s a nine year old Passat, but they are as reliable as one can get.

To leave my business in that 2016 was a devastating decision. Only luck in that is that I was able to make that call relatively soon enough.

I was referring to other post that had luck with timing.

As for me, I was lucky to be born on one piece of land over another. Lucky to have parents. Lucky to have had positive influences. Lucky to have moved from an apartment in a terrible neighborhood to a house in a decent neighborhood. Lucky that my parents had people to help them navigate that move as they didn't know the system. And lucky in so many other ways. 🫂

Ok. In that case I am lucky as well - thanks for reminding me.

Central banks print unlimited money to keep governments afloat that are constantly working to undermine our best interests.

They are stealing from all of us.

I feel a strong kinship with my fellow man and an even greater desire to end central banking.

well buddy, I'm where you were in 2016 so it's nice to meet you. hopefully I can find my place

I’m confident you will. Just work hard and don’t let some first hurdles to put you down. Stay strong!
