That there are still middle-man type services on Nostr, even if they aren’t gatekeeping requirements like they are on other sites.

The benefit on Nostr is that I could just move to [pick another client] without losing access to a single follower if my current client decided to be over greedy.

If X, on the other hand, decided to be subscription only tomorrow, I’d have zero recourse save to start all over again somewhere else.

Maybe what I'm proposing would be better situated as a NIP that any client could use to allow me to publish private notes visible only to select groups.

Clients could then facilitate group management for publishers, or you could do it yourself.

It sounds like a decent app idea. Sort of like a “patreon” equivalent if you link it to backing.
