I keep running into people calling for censorship and content moderation on Nostr.

You fucking mouth breathers aren't getting the point!

Go back to Twitter.

Calling for it, or admitting that it's completely within the protocol to do, as a client or relay operator?

Above the protocol level not ON the protocol level.

It can be done at the relay level and all the small-minded, easily offended people can connect to those relays and have their safe little echo chamber.

But I keep seeing people calling for it at the protocol level, not understanding what they're talking about.

I would hope most of them just fail to understand, rather than having a desire to undermine freedom.

There is definitely a desire among many to silence anything that they deem unacceptable speech. This is foolish and childish. Bad ideas and reprehensible takes should be dragged out into the open and picked apart with common sense, not hidden from view where they fester forever.

They will buy the safe net algos.

it's really funny how Nostr people and Mastodon people tend to hate Twitter, but for exactly the opposite reasons.

I've never really messed around with Mastodon. I took a look at it way back when it was very new and wasn't all that impressed. Nostr is on a whole different level.

it's matured a lot, so now Nostr feels a bit underdeveloped compared to it tbh πŸ˜…

The nostr protocol as defined in the nips repo seems to be fast and loose with little thought given when adding things. Very different from Bitcoin. It’s already messy and going to get worse. Not all clients will be fully compatible and the nips repo will probably fork a lot.

Right now all the different clients pretty much do the same things. That will change as different NIPs get integrated into different clients.

Same goes for relays.

Right, some nips will be controversial or not even compatible with other nips
