A photograph is not a painting and a painting is not a photograph. The similarity is that they are both representations of light on form. Also, photographs are not just digital, they've existed much longer in a non-digital format.
I feel like there are different ways of painting, I think yes π₯Ή when you develop film you use chemicals, maybe they can count as paint and the light in the film as the initial drawing. Orrrr Iβm mad ππ«
It's the same question as asking, is a print a painting? I think no. If the art is made up of individual strokes by the artist, it's a painting. If the entire image is created at once, like with a print or photograph, it's not.
You can make a single photograph with exposure time measured in years and do whatever you want in front of the camera similarly you can make a painting by exploding a bucket of paint never touching the canvas. What would be those arts then?
Light painting is a thing, which I agree is like is painting with yourself on a long film exposure.
Exploding a bucket of paint on a canvas could be art, but I'd really fight against calling it a painting π
Depends on your approach probably? π€
Iβve seen it described as βpainting with lightβ
Such a thought is interesting.
Thank you.
Such is the process of my work. After all, what is photography anyways?
There are actual light paintings in photography too. Long exposure and the painter paints with lights.

Interesting question, in my high school photography club our teacher always told us that the goal of painting was to make it look like a photograph and the goal of photography was to make it look like a painting (in the sense of distorting, bringing focus or highlighting certain areas).
