Is there a trick to updating my lightning address and having it broadcast the change to my profile ?

Ive had to wait for the app to refresh after editing.
If you have a new LN address that you want to use for NOSTR, you should be able to edit your profile using your NOSTR client. Paste the new address in the appropriate field, and hit whatever button saves your changes.
