My husband used to work there. It's not a one dimensional institution. There are a lot of "true believers" who really think they are Doing Good -- and who maybe are like 2/3rds of the time-- there are other interests at play... but there is a surprising amount of workplace "democracy" and meetings and handwringing.

That there are so many people there who believe in the power of journalism just makes the outcomes all the more depressing.
