I’ve been working on nostr projects / designs for a while now and love it! I do it in my spare time pretty much as a hobby.

My main work is freelance design. It’s flexible and I go from project to project and occasionally have some longer term “upkeep” arrangements.

Naturally, when I see that there is funding available for Nostr project, I am intrigued. It would be amazing to work on Nostr in a more serious capacity besides night/ weekend tinkering.

The challenge is that grants are for individuals and prioritize development just by the nature of needing to “get things done”. I totally get it. However, as a designer, I am not sure how I would fit into that requirement because my work requires cooperation. Specifically, cooperation with developers. So, I am unsure if I can even contribute in that capacity. Do I bother applying for one? I don’t know…

While I understand that it needs to be built to even have a chance, I also believe design is required for some products to take foothold. More often than not, good products are burdened by bad design. I see a few of such products / clients out there right now, but it is not my business to explain it to them.

The startup model has an advantage in my opinion as it funds the team working on a startup and not just one or 2 developers. Teams consist of product people, developers, designers, and a jack of all trades founder who typically fills multiple roles.

Anyway, I am just putting this thought out there, to see if anyone has any thoughts about it.

Putting another thought here, nostr UX is definitely a problem

Beautifully put 💜

And honestly, most developer heavy focused communities like this one tends to favor things like command line interfaces AS the ideal for UX. You'll need to get a team and apply as a team.

Do it! The OpenSats application says "Funded contributors and projects should be prepared to share their experience and expertise with the greater community." Nostr really needs UX work, just create some "Nostr Design" organization and spend your time working with devs. I'd personally love to hear any feedback you have on Coracle.

, joined Nostr, ~yesterday, your web app was my first experience. easy, smooth. interestingly, last year was pitching UX ideas to Skiff, as going after a job with then, suggested they do a social network, and & name it Coracle, ( Skiff, Coracle ) so excited you arrived at same name, and put to actual use.

i'm a UX designer, so give me a few weeks play with Nostr & Coracle, & if anything useful to say, I wll

Sounds amazing, thanks!

I think the way forward is cross-functional teams (around 6 to 8 people with a scrum master) to get from Idea to Production going through Prep > Design > Engineer > Test > Operate.

Why would I attend a scrum when I don’t get paid to do it?

Figure out a way to get paid to do it if that’s what you want.

But that’s the whole conversation right? Nostr projects are open source, nobody pays anybody to do anything on open source. Except for bounties (which are grant money). Grant money also doesn’t come with an expectation of returns.

Startups and open source function very differently because the expectations from them are very different.

You can be on salary to work in open source. And I don't think that is the whole discussion. My part of the conversation is recognizing the need for cross-functional teams as not everything can be build only by one or a very small group of developers. The discussions about the need for better design should be eyeopening for everyone. Design should not be an afterthought of a product as data protection or it security should not be after thoughts in development. There is a need and we should think about solutions. Saying that's just how open source works, limits the conversation.

Nice to see someone bringing this up.

Well, that’s how open source works, startup investors have an expectation of returns, grants are just given out. You can’t make people work on open source. You can just give out bounties. Maybe bounties for design is what you’re looking for?

You definitely have your place in this ecosystem ! And you are doing terrific design work !

Please apply to all the available grants ! 💜🫂

💜 🙇‍♂️

You should definitely apply. Worst that could happen is nothing, which is the same as if you didn't apply.

coordination is a killer

Just random ideas and thoughts

Idea 1

Is it possible to provide standalone services ? Ie scope of work such as logo design, icon design, UI/UX design (wireframes, prototypes, final design), or custom illustrations. your pricing strategy (per project fee, hourly rate), portfolio up on GitHub

Idea 2

Alternatively you building something and need more developers for it (I recall seeing your post on it)

Idea 3

Or innovating something - maybe a creative design marketplace on Nostr? I kinda like how canva did it but can improvise whereby designers have a place to upload their portfolio and templates and anyone who downloads it pay the designers (I think 90-10). This can attract more graphic content producers for various purposes - and for users and businesses out of Nostr. Ads also can engage content producers directly

You don't need big intuition to foresight that the client which will collaborate with him, will make #Bingo and won the lottery.

Design #Nostr.

I think you might find some developer to work with. You can create a multi sign wallet and a Nostr between you. And split the sats that you earn.

I totally agree that design is important!

Design is really an under-appreciated aspect of the development process. It needs to be meticulously planned and engaged from the inception of a product. Determining exactly how something will look and feel is critical to the overall functionality, and is not something that just gets slapped on at the end. People need to understand this.

Agree! You always have very good observations/suggestions on how to make clients more accessible. Hopefully, sharing your work and thoughts on Nostr opens the door to new opportunities for you. You should also apply to #[2] and any other sources of money that you may be interested in. It can’t hurt.
