So, let me get this straight: there's no official sub for the Deer anime, is that correct? What happened is that some generous people decided to use machine translation, then another group localized it, followed by someone who "fixed" it, and yet another who fixed it again. Lastly, one more group came and fixed the already fixed version. Now there is some autistic war over who is doing it better.

This is unironically the strongest argument I've seen AGAINST fan translation in 20 years LOL.

Seriously, if you have to rely on this level of effort to get a good translation, just learn Japanese. With 2 to 4 years of dedication, I promise you will be able to consume most of the media you enjoy, as long as you focus on that specific media.

No, I don't miss fansubs, to be very honest. Too much dick riding within those communities. And some of the current localizers sprang from these fansubs. The best translation efforts I've seen were completely decentralized, with each part being done by anonymous users, essentially a team who doesn't know each other, cutting off the potential for power dynamics to influence the outcome.

I was thinking of designing a site for this, on top of nostr, as I was reading that.

Npubs, ratings and zaps/nuts should fix all of this =3

Putting it in the "to do at some point' list.

Yup. 2 years ago I started to learn Japanese out of spite, because I got tired of bad translations from shit localizers that have overrun the industry now.

Good choice
