Worse: Aspirational platitudes from a bygone era that no longer apply in practical reality that we, the members of the bar, pretend undergird the profession.
Here they do apply. They steam roll all situations to fit the shoe that doesn't fit. You will fit that shoe! You must!
My industry is the same, and I bet it's like that in a lot of sectors. Too much bureaucracy everywhere, and too many 20th century thinking for the 21st century. We need more visionaries.
Opposing counsel on one of my cases refers to himself as a visionary on his website. So….

That’s because the practice of law is a pyramid scheme and the longer you’re in the less you have to work for the money you make.
Mean while in Canada when our kids grow up, are invited to the bar, they go to oxford to swear an oath on bended knee to some foreign power; are then expected to bring remedy to our sitchuation! The Courts are even expected to interpret our bylaws! Bringing all remedy to to bay under the colonial powers.
The system is not broken, its built this way.
It bothers me that I earn my living playing a game.
Well hopefuly you will play the game and play it well! Do the dance. Make it a jig. Even serve the time on the ship. Wait for that one precedent setting case that will change the course. Even if you wait until your 75! That one case is worth it!
Though you sell a little of your soul and make very good coin. Maybe oneday the creator will use even an ass such as you to serve in the greater good!
Im on the other side in the trades. My proffession makes the world go around. My direct actions ensure the lights come on. However the grinder steals my wage, my benefits, and my pensions.
