Holy smokes! I thought I'd seen everything.

"Google" just called me and an automated message was telling me about an attempt made to log into my Google account from Carson City. Here's the thing: I got the call from my own cell phone number. When I looked at my phone it was . . . me calling me. Same avatar, same background picture that would come up on any iPhone receiving my call.

Spooky shit.

Neat trick, how did they do it?

Spoofing caller id is possible 🫡

Why would you spoof somebodies own number, makes it obvious no?

It would usually guarantee that it looks like a known caller. If you weren't paying attention you might not notice.

Still spooky. Google doesn't call (that I know of) so it was some phishing attempt. That they used my own number to call me is creepy af.

You okay bro? Take a shot of whisky.

Some spooky shit is happening with google. Today on an android call, in the middle of a call we heard a sudden bot announcing “this call is being recorded”.

Spooky spooky

Aw cmon there’s nothing to worry about.

So they keep telling us… 👀

Exactly

Have you considered the possibility that you’ve become trapped in a David Lynch movie?

Probably better than the clown show going on outside.

Wireless carriers filter calls with spoofed origin numbers all the time.

Is your number a Google number? If not, your wireless carrier has agreed to let Google make calls using your number.

Worst way to find out you're a schizo

Don’t remind me

When your own phone betrays you, it's time to question every digital interaction. This changes everything.
