If you have an extra 10 minutes today, maybe swap out those tiny screws on your door and deadbolt strike plates with long wood screws.

Did that about two weeks ago nostr:npub18dlusgmprudw46nracaldxe9hz4pdmrws8g6lsusy6qglcv5x48s0lh8x3 🤙🏻
Ha, hA, love it. I've made a series of posts this weekend about home improvements. This one is a gem.
And makes sure the bolt hole is deep enough for the dead bolt to extend all the way into the door frame, otherwise there's a good chance it can be worked open through the crack.
Because of thefts? How bad has it gotten to? This looks like a wild recommendation to me...
Because opsec was never not a priority. This is an incredibly easy upgrade. Not only for security but just structural integrity. Hinge screws get loose over time and the longer they are the less they do that. In older houses especially, this is par for the course.
It’s worth doing the hinge side too. Pre-drilling isn’t a bad idea on some of these improvements so you don’t split jambs etc.
Fuck that, I use 4" structure screws rated at 500 pounds of sheer each.
Green screws are junk and Stop using them.
💪
Need much longer screws to pass through the frame and into the 2x4s of the wall studs.
Also do the same 10 on each side in the frame as well as the hinges and strike plate.
Good note, great tip
Yeah, because that giant window on my door will protect me. 🤷🏼♂️

Most burglaries don’t involve knocking the front door off of it’s mounting, bashing the lock off, etc. Too noisy. Also, most car thefts are because someone left something valuable sitting on the backseat. Security through obscurity works in real life because burglars are lazy, in a hurry, and are not after your Bitcoin.
