We have to go through the cycle for it to reset, but I wonder how we’ll know the difference between “rule by many” and “rule by mob” because the latter I feel as all I’ve ever known; but then it’s probably gonna get way worse yet..

Like the chart but did oligarchy ever really go away?

Oligarchy never goes away, there are just different balances in power amongst the different classes throughout time. Even speaking of classes nowadays is taboo though.
And oligarchy isn’t the worst form of government, in its best instantiation of aristocracy it can be said to be the best form.

Just an FYI, the is chart isn't even close.
Roughly 18% of the US are millionaires, not 1%.
You aren’t wrong - my chart must be pre covid. I’m getting closer to 9% rather than 1%.
Perhaps it was accounting for liquid millionaires out of the total population not the tax base.
I didn’t see the 18% does that include all the people whose homes are now millions that they bought for a few k 35 years ago?
I think perhaps 7% doesn't include primary residence, 18% included primary likely. Not sure.

IMHO your chart gives Democracy too much credit
Not my chart, it’s Polybius’ idea.
The fact that Greek Historians had such developed thinking on these concepts 2000+ years ago should tell us that time and politics is cyclical and we’re not in some idiotic End Of History™️
I think Democracy and Mob rule are close relatives. Both manipulated by Oligarchs….and agree, the Greeks struggled very much with Democracy. They created the intellectual class that were able to vote on issues vs the “sheeple” who were not; however, the intellectuals became political and corruption rained.
