Aah, Apple fan boys coming to the rescue, because I said Damus is overhyped. 😁

I've used Apple products (still have an iPad where Damus doesn't work anymore btw), MS products, but I prefer Linux for my business and private computing.

What I always wonder is, how do you Apple fan boys actually reconcile your digital freedom and independence mentality with the closed, proprietary, and senselessly overpriced Apple environment?

Respectfully disagree. I don't like to use iOS with the same reasons you have, but when it comes to user-friendly experience, Damus is the best client that I've ever used (,and I experienced what Androic clients via my friends' devices). It might have its shortcomings, that's OK. But if lots of people comes back to Damus after trying new clients, that shows something.

Sure, we can respectfully disagree with each other. But I always wonder about this mental gymnastics. On one hand, one is freedom-loving, independent, and autonomous, revolutionary, with a pioneering spirit, etc. And on the other hand, one willingly imprisons oneself in an overpriced, proprietary environment just because of ... comfort. With Apple, everything is spoon-fed to you, the choice is limited, almost communist, and if Damus is the best this environment has to offer, then I don't even want to try the other clients.

Google Pixel phones are not available in Turkey, so I bought myself an iPhone. In ideal circumstances, I would buy one and install GrapheneOS. But if you had to choose between an iPhone and an android device where you have no choice over privacy, which one would you choose?

If I'm not mistaken, your criticism is on Apple platfoms, not directly on the efforts of Damus team. And I find that little unfair to them. The usability, and the approach that they chose is unmatched. We're having a simple, private and elegant client to interact with everyone on the network.

I think nostr:npub1xtscya34g58tk0z605fvr788k263gsu6cy9x0mhnm87echrgufzsevkk5s is planning to launch an Android client after his struggles with the App Store. Please try it when they launch it. I'm curious to see whether your opinions remains.

Of course nothing against the developer. But going Apple-first may be the problem here. It doesn't fit the Nostr/Bitcoin spirit at all. Heard, they're even in the fiat money lending business now. Then we saw all the problems with their app store that wanted to take a big fee out of every zap.

Bitcoin/Lightning and Nostr devs should avoid these stores (Google Play Store also) and just deliver downloadable packages, just as Primal did in the beginning. Maybe this would trigger an effort to build an own app store for these types of "freedom tools".

Apple had no problem cancelling Macromedia Flash on their systems back then. Time they taste their own medicine.

I'd still choose the Android device as it gives more freedom and control over #privacy than Apple devices. In fact, #Pixel devices aren't sold by Google in my country either so I bought an older Pixel online and degoogled it.

As a former iPhone user myself I'm not judging anyone, but it depends on priorities I guess... Mine is, if I paid my hard earned money for it, I should be able to decide what I run on it.

I could able to buy a Pixel, but when I thought about what I could do in case of a malfunction, I decided to buy an iPhone. Other than that, I agree with what you said to the letter.

If you’re running it degoogled, which is the only way you should be running it because otherwise it’s worse than an iPhone, I don’t know how much support you’d get in the first place tbh. Wdym they don’t sell it - it’s not available on other marketplaces either new?

It's the cognitive dissonance of the western lifestyle...

Primal on iOS > Damus , imo.

I wouldn't discourage anyone from using Damus though. Nostr onboarding, regardless of client, is a net good.
