Is it that difficult?

If you use a VPN, run nostr:npub1235tem4hfn34edqh8hxfja9amty73998f0eagnuu4zm423s9e8ksdg0ht5, and otherwise have blocked all manner of fingerprinting, yes.

Is it awful?

In my experience, once you've used a VPN (mine is always-on), even if you disable it, it becomes a gauntlet. Absurd.
