I just can't have a computer running 24/7, 365.. If I were to run a node, what are the issues if I get off the internet? How horrible a situation would it be? The idea of have a bare minimum node going would mean I'm a small small, small player on the block chain freeway, right?
No issue. When you get back online your node will just hear from other nodes what the state of the network is.
