Yes Thailand did the same. People abuse their banking system especially tourists who come first with work permits and open accounts
When I was in Europe, they literally closed my account (and stole my money) as soon as I left and my working permit expired.
So it's been happening in the West for years.
How is opening an account abusing the banking system?
Tourists aren't allowed to open accounts without residency.
Usual story globally, but it's abused here in South East Asia.
More to do with AML and human trafficking than anything else
The abuses come from foreign influences buying power. Centralizing that corrupt power is at the expense of the individual while rolling out the red carpet for more abusive foreign influence. lt won't stop human trafficking. It might even expand it
