Yes Thailand did the same. People abuse their banking system especially tourists who come first with work permits and open accounts
When I was in Europe, they literally closed my account (and stole my money) as soon as I left and my working permit expired.
So it's been happening in the West for years.

Tourists aren't allowed to open accounts without residency.

The abuses come from foreign influences buying power. Centralizing that corrupt power is at the expense of the individual while rolling out the red carpet for more abusive foreign influence. lt won't stop human trafficking. It might even expand it

Thailand did this a few months ago.
Centralized digital ID and money absolutely is being pushed, like with free handouts when you sign up. Also, Thailand and some other countries have Jewish settlements that exclude native born locals. It is a greater threat than transient foreigners. Digital ID facilitates exclusion of the non-privileged (locals) from land and resources.
And when they're done redrawing borders, criminalizing encryption and killing the inconvenient masses, they WILL come for us.
