I get your point but how realistic is this and where does it stop? I don't think it makes a ton of sense for every person to be a homesteader with all their own chickens, cattle and garden. I like the idea of a tight community that shares within itself. Like a co-op type thing.

Yes, ideally everyone who has the means & the moxie will do it & do it without industrial grade inputs.
The problem is when you reach a certain scale your incentives are to cut costs, not maximize quality.
