To better manage files and reduce file size and data-out, we are now converting all .png to .jpg format for free uploads.
This should not be noticeable to users, but please let me know if you see any visual or upload issues.

That would be great for videos! I’ve used handbrake before as a stand-alone app, I’ll see if it can be integrated.
Why not webp? Aren’t those file sizes even smaller?
It was very easy to implement with php functions, I didn’t even think to look for webp, although I’m sure there is something.
Webp is still very new and not fully supported everywhere, Damus doesn’t support webp yet.
Once Damus supports it, I would like to convert gifs to webp, some of those are huge..
Screenshots (text & lines) are generally much smaller & higher quality as pngs.
Text as a jpg because very hard to read while the file size increases.
