I am so stressed because of my uni and its so ridiculous because I probably won't even use my degree... but I've invested so much time and energy in it and I'm at the end so it makes no sense to drop out but ughhhhh the stress is too much today π€’π€’π€’ my stomach is in knots
Discussion
I did drop out being less than a year from making it.
No big difference
how come you did that? I just can't let it go coz I've invested too much and I'm so close
I was with my first (and successful) entrepreneurship and I needed the time.
Also I was 100% decided to never use the degree and never work for someone else.
Time invested in studying is never wasted, but I was not learning useful things on the uni and had to come home and study the things I needed and also the things I didnβt need.
Itβs all about a trade-off. If you can, keep going. If not, itβs not a waste to let go.
oh wow, that's amazing!
I wish I had so much courage... I also plan to never work for anyone else but I just want a plan B π π
This is why I dropped out from my PhD. I realized that Iβve already learned everything there was available for me to learn, working on the thesis would have required 6 months of daily research, so I gave up and focused on my Bitcoin work π€ͺ
If itβs the BA, then get it. Might come in handy one day, or at least help you get visas for some countries a lot quicker because you graduated from an institution of higher education π€ͺ
oh wow almost PhD.. Nice
yeah, no im not gonna drop out I'm too close to being over with it, but I'm so stressed it hurts ahhahshshs
Many universities are still stuck in an old paradigm. The abundance of online information and ongoing advancements in AI will make many courses obsolete, especially in humanities, including communication, social studies, literature, arts, philosophy, etc. It is possible to attain a high level of instruction without the need for formal education. Despite having a MA in communication, I understand that today I would be able to reach the same level of knowledge and expertise through self-study and practice, without the need for a structured curriculum
Oh, that ended up very long and wordy! π
Deep.
π π³
hahahahqha
What kind of degree is it, #[2]?
in economics:)
Oh well, if all of your plans fail in life at least youβll be able to work as an accountant π€·π»ββοΈ
I have school teaching degrees as my backup π
hahahahahah accountant π€’π€’
I could never
What was your dream job when you enrolled to this degree and what went wrong?
hahahahaha jk, idk... all I knew is I wanted to work online and choose when I work in the day (no schedule)
and I do that now tbh, my job is pretty ideal
yeah exactly π―
the truth is even the knowledge im getting from my uni is not even close to what i can learn on my own but I just want the paper hahahahahahaha
Yep, lots of jobs still require the good old piece of paperβaka βdiplomaβ
Very nicely and educational put π«
and I π― agree with you.
Turn the next generation away from the University path. Going in to a Nostr economy should be the goal!
Strong Decision π
Writing my thesis for at least the next 6 month. Going back and forth every day if it is worth it.
I initially wanted to become a university professor, so I needed the PhD. But there are no open positions, most professors are in their early 50s and wonβt retire anytime soon, plus I hated my supervisor because no matter how hard I tried he would try to persuade me to write the thesis that he wanted (which is the same thesis as someone else before me). I lost my passion and gave up.
Maybe one day Iβll give it another go. But if youβre really good at what you do, universities can get you under a guest lecturer contract. So itβs a bit pointless given how there are ways to bypass the hierarchies. Might as well get good at what I do.
owww yeah I totally get how you would lose your passion.. I'm sorry to hear that :((
I hope you are happy with the change of path you took tho π
There are always tradeoffs and you can never have it all. But in hindsight, Iβm happy because I have the greatest amount of freedom.
I think if you're close to the finish don't stop at the line. It will strengthen your mind and give extra motivation for your future projects. You just need to remember yourself that even when you were under high pressure you didn't quit.
Itβs okay π you got this. Uni can be stressful at times, and feeling unsure about things is part of going to uni, trust me i know. Iβve had my fair share of changing my degree and dropping out before finding my path.
Even the feeling of the degree not being useful is part life, but one thing I have learned is that everything you learn will be useful in one way of another.
I believe in you π
awwwww thank you so much! this message really calmed me down! thank youuu girl, I'm sending you so much love and hugss π«πππππππ
Take a deep breath, everything will turn out for the better π I promise π« Going to uni is an amazing and beautiful experience with lots of ups and downs - which will be the case throughout life πΈ Remember the good moments and learn from the mistakes that are being made, thatβs how we all grow β¨
Good to hear π youβre the sweetest and smartest person π§ββοΈ Sending lots of love and hugs back to you π«
Again, YOU GOT THIS!!! πππππππ
Education is always a great thing. You can do it! You will use what you have learnt in some way or another βοΈ
thank you! πΈππΈππΈ
The main thing to keep in mind, is that you can and will make it! Believe in yourself, because we sure as hell believe in you! πΆπΎπ«π
its worth finishing, it's mostly just for the certificate at the end, like a driving license
unless you have something like an elon musk to do, but you wouldnt be asking here if you did
yeah, I also compare it with my drivers licence hahahahahah
I understand. I just have my thesis to write to get my diploma. It helps to have a paper to get a job, but it seems so meaningless. I just donβt feel like Iβm learning anythingβ¦.
yeah, literally same... I feel I learn more from just being on the Internet hahahahah
Just take a moment and listen to this beautiful guided meditation and i you will feel better in 10min πππ§‘β€οΈβπ₯
Hey, sorry to hear that #[1] . I sympathize but I don't know how much useful advice I can offer as it's 20 years since I left uni, and I am STILL bad at managing stress. Perhaps all I can say is that this will pass and one day you won't be able to remember what you were stressed about; the stress is your reaction to something and not the thing itself. Good luck - try getting outside and away from your phone. Kind of helps me....
thank you for the words of wisdom, you're right ππΈππΈππΈπ
I quit when I realized that tuition fees for my last year will be better off being spent on bitcoin, that was around 6 years ago, zero regrets π
hahahahahah damn, niceee
I'm happy you were happy with your decision πΈβ¨οΈ
Hereβs advice my mom gave to me when I was in your shoes:
Finish. Donβt matter if you use it, donβt matter if you have honors or not; finish. You started something see it to completion. At a minimum you can look back at your struggles and pat yourself on the back because you didnβt give up. You overcame!
Hope that helps you.
I donβt agree. I canceled uni. Twice. Never regretted it.
If it costs you your happiness. Leave.
This also can be a experience that will bring you much in life. To listen and follow your heart is something few imunderstand.
But no other is in your shoes. You have to decide for yourself ππ
Happiness is fleeting itβs an emotion. The thing that makes you happy today may not tomorrow and giving in to that could leave you in a precarious situation 10 or 15 years from now.
College isnβt for everyone and I wouldnβt go if I could do it over again. Iβd put my grad money into Bitcoin and start a business. BUT the op has already spent the money and time to get in and start a degree program.
Dropping out would be a waste especially when you have all tools to finish.
I had a live-in ex boyfriend OD in my apartment 2 days before the last semester of my last year in school. I wanted to quit. I was stressed, spent a lot of money, and knew my degree was gonna be uselessβ¦ thatβs when my mom gave me that advice. It worked for me.
oh my gosh, I'm so sorry that happened to you... must have been really hard.... I'm really happy you made it tho! Good job!!! ππππ
thank you! it does help and yes, it's important for me to push through.. even if its just for my mental strength and nothing else
Booooooooo!!! Sorry that you feel that way about your situation. At the end of the the day this shall pass and you will see how much stronger you have became. You got this! π
Even if you donβt use your degree you will still use the skills you acquired to get the degree π§
awww thank you so much for these kind words of encouragement!! I really appreciate it! πΈππΈππΈππΈ
thank you all so so so much!!! you made me feel sooo much better and you made my day 1000 times better!!! I appreciate all the lovely words of advice and encouragement!
really the sweetest people I have ever encountered online πΈππΈππΈππΈππΈππΈ

What was your favourite bit of encouragement and advice?
It might come in handy for others.
to not quit because if you quit you're a quitter, also uni is a scam
Sound advice.
It might be a scam to an extent but one can definitely gain insights and abilities that others lack. Your time in school will end, but the knowledge acquisition skills will remain.
Youβd be surprised what your body can endure if you control your mind. Never quit anything or you will always be a quitter
you're right π―π―π―
I felt this way as well in the last few months before getting my degree. I think we all start having doubts when we are so close to the finish line. There is no right answer here, but depending on how close you are to finishing I would try to get it done. You are learning "something" by going through this whether your degree is useful or not in the future. (*my reply might not be helpful :P but I get how you feel)
oh interesting... thank you for sharing your experience with me, it really makes me feel better tbh... ππΈππΈππΈππΈπ
