Destiny is too convenient.

It happened = “it was supposed to happen”

It didn’t happen = “oh it wasn’t meant to be”

Literally no way to be wrong.

Convenient for justifying action or inaction. A concept only a human could devise.

Well, it’s a great way not to cry over spilled milk lol

What is your worldview on this?

Everything is connected. One pull on the string over here results in some outcome on the other end and all along. It’s a chaotic, dynamic machine, contained but uncontrolled within.

This is not a world view, just a thought.

I agree with this. I don’t think that this statement and the ones that you had mentioned in your original post are mutually exclusive.

Why invent a concept where the only outcome is “it was meant to be”? What purpose does that serve except to justify some action?

Too convenient.

Why not? We live in a world full of endless actions, reactions, and inactions. Personally, I have experienced far too much serendipity to not believe in fate.

Was it serendipity or just math? Perhaps the probability of the thing that happened wasn’t as low as you may have thought?

(just being the annoying nerd)

what you are referring to is probably about the fact that... no matter how low the chance of something, there are so many people alive that *eventually* it will happen to somebody

but the fact that the event is certain to happen doesnt mean it is highly unlikely...

okay ended with the statistics and probability rambling

It’s both. Serendipity and probability are related. And serendipity can be tied to both high probability and low probability events.

Example? How can we distinguish between the two and not conclude they are one and the same?

当たるも八卦当たらぬも八卦

on the flip size, also used by impulsive people: "what will be, will be"

I was destined to read this note and zap it.

It would be a very sad life as well. Imagine believing that none of your actions, or decisions, have any bearing on the outcome of your life. It’s all preordained and set, and you are simply following your destiny. I would be miserable.

it's because humans tend to be in 'control' of everything they can and when somethings go unexpected they need an answer. silly game of playing god. if humans can predict or calculate every possible outcome of every events, they wouldn't need a concept of 'destiny'

it's all math

Math is the answer to everything isn’t it? :)

not everything but for the most of things

What is it not an answer to?

it's limited. you can't make an equation about the source of the soul. it's a "null" for math since it's not physical

or at least yet

Assuming there is such a thing as a soul.

assuming is not a "null". it's either 1 or 0, you should be able to make an equation for either of them if you assume

Ok so math applies 😆

The 'language' of Physics among other things.... -grin-

I’d argue math is the underlying truth of everything. Take any object, concept, feeling and reduce it down to its basic function and you’ll find math. All the way into the micro and the macro.

Pure Mathematics is really...it's own...beautiful suite of intimations toward infinities - Ha!

I think destiny can be seen in two ways. One is what you say. There's no point in taking agency as the outcome is predetermined anyway.

But there is the other, where you only invoke it in retrospect and never as an excuse for inaction. Your loved one has cancer and you throw a ton of resources at the problem and they still die eventually. Invoking destiny then makes it easier to accept.

This goes a bit along the lines of this prayer:

> God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,

> the courage to change the things I can,

> and the wisdom to know the difference.
