Why NIP-42? Client Authentication is a game changer for nostr. Here are two interesting relays it enables:

- A private relay (on the public internet) for just you and your closest friends/family that nobody else can read without your permission.

- A private paid relay for content creators to showcase their work behind a paywall (think patreon)

People will love this. Watch out onlyfans

We can even create relays where you only pay for your own usage and storage, it makes this much easier.

The ideas are endless! I think of a few more every time I talk about it.

Newsletters , news subscriptions, gambling subscriptions. Eventually could even have streaming platforms use them. I would love to stream fortnite and get zapped for it. Twitch took so much of my revenue that I gave up.

I feel like we have only seen the tip of the iceberg of what nostr is fully capable of. This is an exciting time to be alive.

It has so much potential, I hope client realise it.

Depends on the level of motivation. You can tell some client developers are much more ambitious then others.

a lot of potential here

If users want a small private relay, they should have the option right in the client to host it peer to peer. And it would be great to be able to pass the role of (relay) host to anyone on the private channel. That way there are no third parties having the data in the first place, only the small circle of trust.

Peer to peer within a client sounds like an outside of nostr spec thing, no? How do you deal with the networking issues? Personally, I think Keet is a better solution for private chats but people want everything on nostr regardless.

All things on Nostr

Tokenise everything

Remix everything into dubstep

This is the future

And past

I was thinking the relays would do better to offload the whole private chat burden. There's no reason to relay it far and wide for public consumption. Maybe you are right and its more an outside of Nostr thing, and maybe thats the answer to people asking for it on the relays. Within the protocol or not, baking something into the client side would be better for both the user and the relays.

Peer to peer has a lot of challenges with networking. This is mostly what Keet is addressing. If you’re not familiar, you should check out their work and read about Holepunch: https://keet.io/

Already reading! Thanx! 🤙

Not seeing that keet is open source, keet, and the tools that holepuch provides to build it with. Anything that's not open source is a non starter.

Looks like I have some studying to do. This is encouraging.

It’s Paolo and the bitfinex/tether team! Bitcoin heroes that keep delivering :)

I 💜 Keet! Definitely my choice for private conversations.

I reviewed the code weeks ago, but never posted what I found: looks like the holepuch framework is open, but keet is not.

Is anyone aware of an open source chat client using the holepunch framework?

With all 'PRIVATE' modules, You’ll scare away users.. Think of those who are to the end of the world...

#Nostr isn’t limited to users of ‘American’ nationality, various nationalities from Europe or those from Asia.

Unless your 'goal' is to create a 'network' only for yourself and your knowledge & hope that the majority is 'white'..

Either we form a 'union chain' or we can expect that #nostr adoption won’t be as viable as Twitter despite its flaws & limits..

NIP-42 è in game changer?

il bello di #Nostr è che basta aspettare qualche ora per scoprirlo 😅
