I like your optimism.
I think it will be <1% and because of the lack of privacy (who is hosted and self-custodial can be discerned from the transparency) those of us who self-custody will be considered high-risk and subject to insane scrutiny whenever interacting with aboveground institutions.
I remember when email was new and people tried for a while.. then now its nearly impossible.. the big email provider’s mark the tiny self hosting email as spam.
They should always be upgrading bitcoin to give it new features to keep it self sovereign, and self custodial. The way it is now bitcoin will be like email custodial turned into. #bitcoin
I bet this number will grow somewhat for the next few years then slowly diminish as custodial solutions and L2s become better. Eventually base layer holders will become rarer than whole coiners.

max 7.5% self custody maybe 20-25% of the coins. The sad thing i had to learn is that most people will never take responsibility for their own life. Bitcoin will not change that.
Most will be held by locally trusted people in some kind of multisig.
There will be a point when the transaction fees will be greater than most users would tolerate so most will be using fedi/cashu mints.
