#[3] we seeing a weird behavior on this video file. Plays fine on your site, but not from within Damus (not sure what other client has been tested by uploader)

I suspect the codec has something to do with it. Decodes ok on .build site but not in client.
Just checked, the file is there, and it plays on my Mac desktop, but doesn’t play on my Damus or even my mobile browsers?! Never seen the issue, but it is not Damus or nostr.build related.. That I can’t stream on my Chrome mobile browser tells me there is another compatibility issue.
It is 269MB, maybe a size thing? I will research more but is related to browsers, not Damus or nostr.build..

Are we talking about the original Timelapse video? If so, I can play it in Damus without issues on a 14 pro on latest TestFlight 🤷♂️
It freezes a bit as I play it (buffering) but it starts normally…

That is so weird, must have something to do with cache, memory, video size? We are not seeing anything in preview, I can’t even play it on a mobile browser…
It looks like a ProRes file. I download it and cannot playback on standard iPad. Not familiar with the codec info displayed in metadata. Do not have my computer available to go dig. #[5] is there reencoding happening on upload out of curiosity? Or is this the file as uploaded by user?
I think you got it. It is a different video format than the norm, ProRes. Not all .movs are the same..
This is ‘as uploaded’ by the user, no compression or format change for videos, especially in their personal account.
Ok. Confirmed it is a ProRes issue by trying to open it in iMovie (🤣). Some newer Apple iOS devices can decode, but not legacy hardware. Best to export the movie to a distribution friendly codec (mp4) and reupload.

ProRes was mainly created for the video post-production industry, then adopted in production. Have stopped following the development, but I remember seeing something about using it for distribution as well. The compatibility must come down to the solutions they can build straight into the chip.
