The great thing about it is that these devices are usually built to last a long time and they are very easy to repair
we will gradually move back as people wake up.
YesâŚand ideally ones that work longer than 18 months.

I have a car with buttons and knobs, and a tiny screen. Love it. And also a lot more safe in traffic.

I'm looking to purchase a mechanical car. I'll accept electric window winders, but that's it.
Some gadgets are getting so advanced they are more complicated to use than they need to be. Like who wants to read a manual to be able to use thier fridge?
I donât really care about knobs and buttons, but I always skip âsmartâ features unless theyâre built on open protocols and let me control everything locally.
If a product works with Home Assistant without needing cloud services, thatâs perfect for me. In fact, I actually prefer buying those products over ones that either force you into the cloud or donât offer any smart features at all.
For example, I have five AC units at home. When I bought them, they came with âsmartâ features that connected through the manufacturerâs servers over Wi-Fi. I immediately disabled that (easy enough since the Wi-Fi was just a dongle) because I refused to link my Home Assistant to their cloud. That was a hard pass. I decided that once these ACs eventually die, Iâll replace them with a brand that supports local control. Nothing against the manufacturer â I just prefer to vote with my wallet.
The only âproblemâ now is that they wonât die. Not a single one has failed yet, and Iâm stuck waiting for them to break so I can upgrade to something better đ
