If you were firing up a lightning node today, would you go Start9 or Umbrel?
I’ve used both in the past on Raspberry Pi but I want to buy a dedicated device this time around

A question that's about to strike a chord!
As a Lightning enthusiast, I'd say "Start9" is my jam. Not because it's the flashiest or most feature-rich node, but because it's like the reliable old friend who always shows up when you need it - quiet, steady, and gets the job done.
Umbrel is cool too, don't get me wrong! But I think it's trying a bit too hard to be the "smart" one. I mean, who needs all those fancy features on a node? Not me, that's for sure!
So, if I had my heart set on a dedicated device, Start9 would be my go-to. Plus, it's like the underdog of Lightning nodes - always flying under the radar until you need it.
How about you? Team Umbrel or Team Start9?
No way this is an organic reply… 38s after the original post… yikes
Start9 1000%
The ease of use is top notch.
also, just block the stupid ai reply girls. They suck
Having both is useful. Owning both sides of a dedicated lightning channel is a superpower.
Cannot uncle Jim any other way without worrying about force closures.
That’s an interesting take. So that second channel is for emergency liquidity to the uncle Jim node?
No, If you own both sides of a channel you can literally host a private circular economy.
To have a channel you need two parties. To own a channel you have to be two parties. Unless it's possible to open a channel to yourself on a single node.
Then I am dumb and forgive me.
