I spoke with a few of my cousins & friends who are also doctors or have doctor friends and they all advised against taking antidepressant medications, (especially if you're young.)

Instead, they recommended going to a gym, practicing meditation, and taking a vacation.

They explained that becoming dependent on antidepressants can have detrimental effects on one's emotional well-being as they eventually override the natural mechanisms of our feelings.

In simple words, you can't feel happy without taking the meds. That's very frightening.

So personally I will try my best to not take any antidepressant meds but it's not an advice for everyone, every individual is unique. They have to explore what works for them.

Dependency and withdrawl are more serious than you can imagine. The drugs are a last resort. Doctors have many incentives that have nothing to do with health. Wish I knew then what I know now.
