Other than the error itself being a story, shouldn't this journalist have immediately warned them that they made the error instead of eavesdropping? If I, for example, am accidentally copied on opposing counsel's internal communications and I dont tell them and exploit that, I get disbarred.

Different profession/situation different rules and motivations. I doubt there’s anything illegal about him staying silent but you’re the lawyer. It’s a fucking jackpot for a journalist.

They have good lawyers there so I'm sure he covered his ass before going live and I am all for exposing shit security within our administration. But something about this bothers me.

I understand where you’re coming from with your professions code- I see it a little different here though. If you’re communicating in backchannels for expediency, fine - but then rules of the jungle apply. These are the consequences of fucking up in the arena they chose to play in.

They very much fucked up. Maybe the truth is I'm actually embarressed so I want to lash out at a rag I don't respect.
