This is fine. I was in an expensive city too. But I need to take responsibility for my life. I'm not going to stubbornly stay in an expensive city and at the same time complain how I'll never be able to buy a house or afford kids. Its like complaining how dark it is my house, but refusing to open the blinds or turn on the lights. It's silly. This country has affordable homes in gorgeous locations all over. Now that people can work remotely it's even more attainable now!
I agree with this for sure, and I certainly don’t complain as I’ve been lucky enough as is. But some people easily get trapped and don’t see a way out, especially working class.
Not everyone has the skill set to work from home and they may not have the time to learn one either, unless we’re talking about something like answering a support phone or emails.

I would actually work for $40/hr. I've been in catering for 30 years, got hotel and bar certificates stacked higher than sats and I'm being offered like €13/hr to work in the German catering industry? I make more staying home, streaming and trading Bitcoin.
Sounds like they live in downtown Toronto 😆 The average single bedroom apartments are only $1500/month in my region, they should move here.
Housing costs are skyrocketing even in so-called LCOL areas. There is also the fact that when you move to a cheaper city wages also decrease. Remote workers may be the exception, but many companies are now using location-based salaries for remote employees.
Right. Even more reason to live within your means and give up entitlement.
Penny-pinching is not going to eliminate all poverty or economic struggle.
For some people, there are systemic issues that cannot be overcome purely by personal responsibility. Fixing some of society’s problems is going to require us to develop empathy for people who are economically disadvantaged, so we can be motivated to change system.
