Definitely but why judge the people using it?

I think the media did a really good job of painting TikTokers as idiots. That was propaganda that made it effortless for the United States to ban a social media app headquartered in America that 1/3 of all adults used!

I think you're misunderstanding what I'm getting at. I'm not judging anyone for using it. I genuinely don't give a fuck what people use. I don't use it myself, and even though the ban isn't going to affect me because I don't use the app, I am wholeheartedly against it. I don't see siloing off America from the rest of the world as a positive thing.

My confusion, I guess, comes from a technology standpoint. I'm a little bit too invested in tech. And I have a hard time seeing a centralized platform controlled by a state as genuinely beneficial. But that's just my own bias.

And I guess I'm just more confused because her view to me is an alien perspective. I'm just trying to understand why people are so attached to it.

I've been talking about this on nostr:npub1627md0lshr7hsa9z6ud8xpln2xvrszjcqv0uu5d8cjvz4f2vscnsat3aec for quite some time.

The TikTok ban is going to affect you. You're an American and your country is doing what we call our enemies fascist for doing. This is a huge deal and only the beginning. I am an Iranian refugee. Please believe me.

I'm not saying TikTok is the better alternative. I'm saying TikTokers think TikTok is their best hope fo communication without the American government involved.

You started your note saying that you think your sister and you live worlds apart. I am trying to say that you are actually neighbors who wants the same thing.

You are the nostr:npub1pmhevxtlt3478pvmdqt7dftnv6zc2mzpdc569yjm6ks4k2jhezcs53uksr (husband) and your sister is me. It took a while for Ian to understand what I got out of TikTok. But once he understood why I believe TikTokers will be the next wave of Nostr adoption we founded nostr:npub17vscfmnmshfdw68llhduxtr4h0kkmyhzm4phzs40t3gqsmguz7lsak66ne.

Actually please check us out and send her our website. It's supposed to be able to explain to someone like her how this technology benefits us. Maybe this can help you guys get on the same page.

Yeah, I'll check out the website. I don't disagree with your points. I think out loud sometimes, back and forth like this helps me. So thank you for sharing your view on it because a positive view on TikTok is still alien to me.

So much cool stuf. It's 170 million Americans. From all walks of life, skills, and trades. Lots of Creators because TikTok was one of the first I think to actually pay people who got a lot of views. TikTok basically employs them without any security.

I've never used Tik Tok either and I like to think the ban also does not affect me, but maybe Mandana's right. I would like to learn more about her experience as an Iranian refugee. It sounds super interesting.

Satoshi cited wei-dai in the white paper and he wrote a paragraph I've spent a ton of time pondering since I read it.

"I am fascinated by Tim May’s crypto-anarchy. Unlike the communities traditionally associated with the word “anarchy”, in a crypto-anarchy the government is not temporarily destroyed but permanently forbidden and permanently unnecessary. It’s a community where the threat of violence is impotent because violence is impossible, and violence is impossible because its participants cannot be linked to their true names or physical locations."

I like this ideal, but decided to link this npub to my true name anyway because of the TikTok ban. Nyms lack the Ethos required to convince people why nostr is important. I want an open society on the Internet and although nostr is not perfect, I believe nostr is our best shot at creating an open society on the Internet, regardless of political winds.

Do you know much about Iran before the revolution? It was a very modern society. Women had more rights in Iran than in America.

But there were serious economic problems. There was a need for a revolution but people were straight up fooled. They thought Khomeini would save them.

Turned out that he lied to gain power and enforce religious extremism.

What does that remind you of?

I don't know much about Iran, but I did know it was secular in the 70's. Lying to gain power sounds like every politician to me, but the memecoin president comes to mind.

Biden did it too talking about the soul of a nation. And then funded a genocide he spent decades setting up in Congress. And also banned TikTok!

Thank you. I don't follow politics much. It doesn't suprise me. I'm not partisan. The system does what the system does regardless of who is on charge.

Government is like a hurricane, except hurricanes kill less people.

AIN'T THAT THE TRUTH 🙌🏽

Please add the signup for the beta also with a Nostr npub and not only with the email, it would be better 🤙⚡

I thought you could already try the beta version by signing up with your email

No, we are still building! Just launched the company in the Fall. Sorry for the confusion.
