Making something illegal doesn't make it criminal no matter how many people are in prison for it.

If then enforcing it doesn't reduce the act, a true error has been committed.

What are some examples of this?

95% of Americans consume their first full alcoholic beverage before the age of 21

We all culturally accept this fact

But we can’t take sensible risk mitigation strategies around 18-21 year old college drinkers because we legally have to pretend they don’t exist

Great one thank you👌

Driving without a license.

If god has a master plan

Interesting!

I understand having rules of the road that must be enforced for people’s physical safety. But licensing drivers doesn’t make sense to me, and it doesn’t stop unlicensed drivers from being on the road. How many times have you forgotten how to drive? 😂 And yet every few years we have to pay a fee and update our identity record with the state in order to get a new card with a new date on it that says we’re allowed to operate a vehicle on a public roadway.

Never thought of this, that's a very good point.

The last point I’ll make on it is that most people have an aversion to dying or getting seriously injured, and because of this, if they want to operate a vehicle on a public road they will naturally be incentivized to learn how to do so without dying or being seriously injured. They will probably also want to learn how to avoid getting fined for violating safety rules, because most people don’t like being fined. There is no internal incentive for me or you to want to get licensed for the sake of being licensed, other than that it is required of us to drive on the roads, and we probably want to avoid being fined or jailed. There is, however, incredible incentive for the government to want to collect a fee from everyone every few years, and have an updated database of your contact info and photo.

Drug prohibition had a long history of failure and making the problem worse with many other negative side effects with a large body of academic work demonstrating this
