But it looks like it died due to twitters manual signin policy, which probably killed nitter in the same way?

I remember reading somewhere that it was an issue of 'tokens'. Nitter was previously able to generate temporary tokens, granting access to Twitter, but this was no longer possible with X.

Not being technically literate, I don't know much more than that. 😢

To access the unofficial GraphQL API (which was used by the twitter.com web client) you needed bearer token (there was one circulating on the internet valid for years, used by my bot and other tools) and guest token (which was valid only for couple of hours and could be obtained from JavaScript from twitter.com/home). If I remember correctly they hide the guest token behind login, possibly making lot of other changes. No idea what's the current state.
