People will continue to use centralized and legacy social media until they realize that their outrage is a commodity and that it's being farmed.

Nailed it!
Nostr onlyπ
Attention is the commodity being farmed. Outrage is the drug that keeps the user coming back to be harvested.
What if most people are destined never to awake and are used by whoever their overlords are?
Be it governments, cults, Bitcoiners or any designated group.
How dare you?
The network effects make a platform more and more attractive the more other people participate. People attract other people to the platform and keep them there.
That's absolutely true, but there's always a tipping point.
Think about how the algorithms work: they're designed to maximize engagement, and few things drive engagement like strong emotions. Outrage, fear, and tribalism are highly effective at keeping users glued to their screens, sharing content, and commenting. This engagement, in turn, generates data and ad revenue for the platforms. So, in a very real sense, your emotional reactions are directly contributing to their bottom line.
The shift to decentralized alternatives like Nostr won't just be about better tech or more freedom; it will require a fundamental change in how people perceive their own participation. Until individuals recognize that their emotional energy is a valuable resource being exploited, the inertia of centralized platforms will likely remain strong.
What do you think it would take for more people to have that "aha!" moment?
It's ashame....
Not everyone gets a life raft unfortunately... π
True, but given a long enough timeline, we have better and safer ships.
legacy platforms thrive on farming outrage for profit. People stick to what's familiar until the cracks show.
Decentralized options exist, but it takes time for folks to jump ship. Not everyone gets a life raft, but better, safer platforms are on the horizon for those who make the leap. π€
Most need to think outside of the box π
Years ago when I heard about loosh farming as a concept I thought it was crazy. More and more starting to think it would explain a lot about the world we live in
Value 4 Value > Outrage 4 Value
Nah. Lots of people know that and still choose to use such platforms.
I'd love to do content creation on Nostr.
The only thing is that I'd like a YouTube mirror for a video service on Nostr. That way, I'd be able to pull some shenanigans on both platforms.
So forever then basically.
