Seth, this has to do with the Alby Wallet and giving a percentage of your zap for Damus development. My guess is gold starts have given more or maybe a bigger percentage of their zaps go to Dev Support 🤙🏻

I love the devs and support what they do, but I don’t like applying status to “how much” you support. I’d rather donate anonymously than wear a badge of loyalty.

It’s not a good feature imo

If you could turn off the badge and donate anonymously, would you use it? I like it because it’s easy but some may not like advertising their spending choices. I thank that’s a fair point.

😡🫢🤣* meant think

I like the ease of application as well as the donation and support, but it drives the wrong incentive approach. I like to give a lot of sats to good content, but this incentivizes me to give less to the creator of the content, and match to devs to get my gold star.

I agree, when I realized what it was I kind of thought the same thing. I had a hard time using the sliding scale to get the sats I wanted to donate and honestly wound up reducing my sats to get the number I wanted to send out. Be good to know what the gold vs blue means.

So it looks like the star turns gold when you get the % up around 100%

I’d rather turn off donations than have a loyalty status star. 👀🫣

100% tax - not good 👎

I say this intentionally to spark thought and consideration around this. We’re learning though and I understand trial and error 🤗

It’s not a tax, it’s an extra payment. If you set it to 100% you still send your normal payment to the person you want to zap and then you also send that same amount to support Damus.

I know. Twitter Blue is also not a tax. Neither is rounding up to the charity in the grocery store on a purchase. I get it, I just don’t agree with the incentive structure aligned with the status tag.

Not a tax… not forced to pay.

#[3] I get it. I think the idea is % of a zap for dev support is good. I’m just not a fan of the star badge since it’s serving as a differentiator of how much someone gives. I think to

Show that someone is supporting the devs is cool, but to say use the color of the star to designate a different in % isn’t that cool.

I could cut my zaps in half so

Im spending the same amount per transaction in order to get my gold star, but don’t really want to do that.

I know someone has introduced the idea of anonymous support so that will take care of this in the future. We are all learning and we go here. Got to try it out to see people’s reactions. It’s all good 🤙🏻💜
