How do you respond to the average person who says something like Venmo is just as easy (if not easier since almost everyone uses it?) I have my response but curious to hear how others educate people on this.
Discussion
Payment to ln address or creating invoice for each person?
I have some ideas to streamline this process assuming all participants are nostr users.
Argument against Venmo. You need to give each person your Venmo id through email etc.
Assuming all participants are nostr users, participants can just zap a note about that dinner or the profile of the person paying.
They can also just scan the QR code like we see so many people advertising on social right now. Same process (minus maybe privacy). There has to be more value than just how quick the transfer is to get people onboard, since these payment apps are already just as fast. Otherwise, there is no incentive to switch or even consider switching.
Personally, I think a more impressive video to post on social media is someone paying someone from something like CashApp or Strike to a user who has Venmo, PayPal or WoS using Bitcoin as the open monetary network without the user knowing what is happening in the background. Showing how Bitcoins open network brings all the closed networks together.
Jack Mallers had the right idea when he said open networks win and the company with the best user experience will win. Of course the conversation can move to selling point of being able to self-custody that asset without counterparty risk That is what we should be promoting IMO.
Interoperability is good for sure until hyperbitcoinization.
Real incentive may come from the restaurant; they can share some or all off credit card processing fee with lightning payers; I believe up to 3%.
Ln address can be encoded as qr code. any wallet that supports paying to ln address?
I always thought this would be a great selling point as well. Restaurant gets instant settlement and they don’t have to wait days to hit their account.
Eliminate the risk of charge backs for the business.
I do think their needs to be a little more incentive for the customer because credit cards are just too convenient. If we just give the same benefit (-3% discount) it’s not enough to incentivize a switch since it’s not 10x better. Maybe something like a high tier rewards program from the business.
Thinking out loud here.
